Air|Water Driven By Mobil 1 Event Celebrates Porsche Heritage And Community Spirit
The third annual Air|Water Driven by Mobil 1 event recently concluded with great success. Despite some rain, the enthusiasm of Porsche fans remained high on April 26 in Costa Mesa, CA. Attendees, car owners, marketing partners, and exhibitors all contributed to the event's success. Mobil 1 showcased historic cars across the 150-acre venue, highlighting racing achievements from rally to endurance favourites.
Visitors had the chance to experience the latest Porsche 911 models through the Porsche Thrill Ride. This feature allowed ticket holders to enjoy a complimentary ride on a specially designed course. Professional drivers demonstrated the agility and handling of these vehicles. With six cars running throughout the event, wait times were minimal for this thrilling experience.
The Troy Lee Design-liveried 2024 992 GT3 Cup and 2011 997 GT3 RSR were standout attractions among Mobil 1-sponsored cars. The guest of honour was the iconic 1985 McLaren MP4/2B, powered by a legendary V6 turbo Porsche-TAG engine. This car helped Alain Prost secure his first world championship in 1985.
A unique display of Paint to Sample (PTS) cars surrounded the McLaren. This Porsche program allows customers to choose custom paint colours beyond standard options. Will Lee (@PTSRS) led a team that sourced popular PTS colours for both air- and water-cooled vehicles, creating an impressive display of vintage and modern Porsches.
Another highlight was Joshua Vides' art installation, created with Creative Director Jeff Zwart. They showcased a Porsche 911 previously displayed in Los Angeles alongside a modern specialty 911 ST model. Joshua’s distinctive black-and-white style added drama to the event.
The Broad Arrow live auction featured prominently at Air|Water Driven by Mobil 1. It saw approximately $15.3 million in sales from 55 cars. A notable sale was a 1989 RUF CTR Yellowbird, which fetched $4,680,000 after competitive bidding.
Other significant sales included a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Martini Racing for $2,590,000 and a 1966 Porsche 906 for $1,528,500. A reimagined 1990 Porsche 911 Coupe by Singer sold for $1,006,000.
Exhibitor Hall and Merchandise
The Exhibitor Hall attracted many visitors with its range of performance specialists, accessories, art, apparel, and more. It was popular among current and prospective Porsche owners alike.
Two merchandise areas offered event-specific apparel and collectibles alongside classic items from past events. These items are also available online at air-water.com.
