Acura Partners With USA Bobsled/Skeleton And Honda To Enhance Athlete Performance Using Wind Tunnel Technology
American Honda has announced a significant partnership with the USA Bobsled/Skeleton Team (USABS), extending support through 2030. This collaboration will leverage Honda's advanced engineering expertise to enhance the performance of USABS athletes. The partnership includes Acura's support at major events like the World Cup and Olympic Winter Games, aiming to boost the team's competitive edge.
Honda R&D engineers in America will play a crucial role by applying their technical knowledge to aid USABS. Their experience, accumulated over five decades, will be instrumental in supporting the athletes' training and performance goals. Initial testing has already commenced at the Honda Automotive Laboratories of Ohio (HALO) Wind Tunnel.
The HALO aeroacoustic wind tunnel, operational since 2022, is a state-of-the-art facility located in East Liberty, Ohio. It offers exceptional aerodynamic flow quality for vehicle development. This technology will be used to provide essential engineering data and design input for USABS athletes and equipment.
Acura logos will feature on USABS sleds during national and international competitions. This highlights Acura's commitment to precision engineering and advanced performance. The brand's Precision Crafted Performance DNA aligns with USABS's pursuit of excellence on the world stage.
Larry Geise, executive vice president of Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC, expressed pride in supporting USABS athletes in their quest for gold at the Winter Games. He noted that Honda engineers are eager to apply their skills to help achieve optimal performance in sports where fractions of a second matter.
The multi-year partnership will benefit USABS at events like the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and French Alps 2030. Honda aims to deliver top-notch performance by carefully matching equipment with athletes, learning from their experiences with speed and extreme forces.
Enhancing Athlete Performance
Athletes will spend time at HALO studying how aerodynamics affect sleds. Aron McGuire, CEO of USABS, stated that this partnership marks an exciting moment for USA Bobsled/Skeleton. He emphasized that combining Honda's precision engineering with athletic excellence gives Team USA an edge globally.
Chris Fogt, head coach of the USA Bobsled Team, welcomed Honda's support. He highlighted Honda's leadership in racing and expressed excitement about how their resources will advance USABS training and performance.

Matt Antoine, Head Coach of the USA Skeleton Team, shared insights into skeleton racing. He noted that positions like head and shoulders are crucial for aerodynamics and performance. Time spent at HALO will offer valuable feedback for optimizing results.
Honda is also a Founding Partner of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company supports Team USA with a range of mobility products during these events, focusing on electrified vehicles like the upcoming Honda 0 Series and Acura RSX.
