Acura Meyer Shank Racing Secures Second Place In Competitive Rolex 24 Daytona Race

The Acura Meyer Shank Racing team achieved a podium finish at the IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona for the fifth year in a row. The #60 Acura, driven by Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, Scott Dixon, and Felix Rosenqvist, secured second place after leading for 39 laps. They finished just 1.335 seconds behind the winner.

The #93 Acura faced challenges early in the race due to a suspension failure. Piloted by Nick Yelloly, Renger van der Zande, Alex Palou, and Kakunoshin Ohta, it started strong but had to retreat to the garage for repairs. Despite this setback, the team managed to get back on track quickly and finished eighth.

Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) expanded its involvement by strategizing and engineering the #93 entry. This race also marked Kakunoshin Ohta's debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He led during his stints, showcasing his potential despite the car's mechanical issues.

Tom Blomqvist expressed satisfaction with their performance: "Fantastic result nonetheless... I drove the wheels off the thing." Colin Braun echoed this sentiment: "Obviously great result... Both Felix and Scott did a great job." Scott Dixon noted some difficulties but praised the team's strategy.

Felix Rosenqvist found it bittersweet to finish second but was proud of their effort: "Pretty good ending for the #60 car... my heart was pounding." Meanwhile, Nick Yelloly acknowledged their technical issue but appreciated the team's efforts to recover.

Learning from Setbacks

Renger van der Zande highlighted their quick recovery: "I'm super happy to see that the #60 car race all the way to P2... We need to investigate what happened." Alex Palou reflected on their mechanical failure but remained optimistic about future races.

Kakunoshin Ohta felt honoured to participate in such a prestigious event: "It is a huge honor... I even got to lead my first time out." He looks forward to future races with enthusiasm.

Official Roles and Future Plans

The Acura Integra Type S served as the official safety car for this year's event. Koji Watanabe, HRC global president, had the honour of waving the green flag as honorary starter. David Salters from HRC USA praised their collective efforts despite not clinching victory.

The next challenge awaits at Sebring on March 15 for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The team aims to build on their experiences from Daytona as they prepare for upcoming races in this competitive championship series.
