Acura MSR Achieves Back-to-Back Wins At Sahlen's Six Hours Of The Glen
Colin Braun and Tom Blomqvist celebrated a significant win at the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen, driving the #60 Acura ARX-06 to victory. This triumph marked their second consecutive win in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, following their success at the Detroit Grand Prix. Starting from third, Braun faced early challenges but ultimately secured a win with strategic decisions.
Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian's strategy played a crucial role in their success. Despite an early setback that saw Braun drop to seventh, the team opted for slick tires earlier than others as the track dried. This decision helped Braun climb to fourth before handing over to Blomqvist, who executed a decisive move into the top three.
The final hour saw Blomqvist capitalise on a fuel strategy that allowed him to take first place when competitors pitted for fuel. "Great for everyone on MSR, HRC and Acura," Blomqvist said. "The guys did a fantastic job committing to that strategy and putting the odds in our favor to win that race." This victory marked Acura's seventh win at Watkins Glen International.
Meanwhile, Renger van der Zande started from pole position in the #93 Acura ARX-06. He maintained a strong presence in the top three before passing control to Kaku Ohta. Ohta held second place during his stint, showcasing his skills as a Honda Racing Corporation development driver.
Nick Yelloly took over for the final stint in the #93 car, initially moving into second place with an impressive overtake. However, he had to make a late pit stop for fuel, which resulted in finishing sixth. "P6 after the final two or three hours in the car," Yelloly noted. "Unfortunately, we just didn't have the fuel to do the extra lap or so."
Kaku Ohta expressed satisfaction with his performance despite not finishing higher. "The car was fantastic and we had great pace throughout," he said. "We had a chance to win or at least get a podium." He acknowledged his teammates' efforts and thanked Honda and Acura for their support.
Reflections on Performance
Renger van der Zande shared mixed feelings about their race outcome but praised his team's overall performance this season. "What great speed we had in the car," he remarked. "Obviously, I'm very happy for the #60 car to win." He highlighted their consistent presence among top contenders during races.
The weekend proved successful for Honda and Acura teams across various competitions, including IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and NTT INDYCAR SERIES events. David Salters from Honda Racing Corporation USA expressed pride in their achievements: "Wow, a pole and a win, we've done it again!"
The next challenge awaits at Road America in early August as part of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season's seventh round.
