Acura Integra Type S Competes In One Lap Of America With HRC Prototype Performance Parts

An Acura Integra Type S, equipped with prototype performance parts from Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), is participating in the 2025 Tire Rack One Lap of America. This event, known for its challenging nature, spans over 3,000 miles and includes timed races on nine tracks across the Midwest. The competition tests the durability and performance of HRC's prototype parts under extreme conditions.

The Acura team at this event is part of the Honda of America Racing Team (HART), which consists of Honda associates from North America. This program allows associates to compete in various national competitions and racing series, gaining valuable experience. HART also helps transfer vehicle performance insights into developing future Honda and Acura products.

Two Ohio-based engineers, Justyn Bobinski and Chad Gilsinger, are driving the specially prepared Acura Integra Type S. Both work as vehicle dynamic test engineers at the Honda North American Automotive Development Center (ADC) in Ohio. Their involvement provides a unique opportunity for HRC to gather data and feedback to refine each part's development.

Another team from ADC includes Clay Duval and Brian Penza, who are driving an Acura TLX Type S. This model is celebrated as the brand's fastest all-wheel-drive sedan, featuring a turbocharged 355-hp V6 engine with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive technology. Penza is a bumper design expert with experience on various models, while Duval specializes in HVAC performance engineering.

Last autumn at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, HRC announced a new venture to produce authentic performance parts for street, track, and off-road use. The collaboration between HART and HRC allows for real-time data collection during events like One Lap of America, aiding in refining these parts for customer use.

The One Lap of America event runs from May 4-10, starting and ending in South Bend, Indiana. It includes timed track events at renowned motorsports facilities such as World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis, Missouri; National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in Kentucky; and Virginia International Raceway.

Acura's Commitment to Performance

The Integra competes using Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS tires designed for grassroots racing enthusiasts focused on track days and endurance racing. Meanwhile, the TLX uses Bridgestone Potenza Sports tires engineered for superior wet and dry performance with enhanced cornering capabilities.

Acura remains dedicated to delivering innovative engineering through its Precision Crafted Performance DNA. The lineup includes sport sedans like Integra and TLX alongside sport-utility vehicles such as ADX, RDX, MDX, and ZDX—all built in America using domestic and global parts.

Honda Racing Corporation USA

Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) has been supporting Honda Racing since its inception as Honda Performance Development (HPD) in 1993. In January 2024, HPD merged with HRC Japan to enhance motorsports capabilities further. HRC US leads high-performance racing programs across North America while preparing for Formula One power unit development starting in 2026.

HRC US focuses on designing powertrains, chassis components, electronics, performance parts along with providing technical support for both amateur racers and professional teams alike across various racing styles—from karting to top-tier professional competitions.

The efforts by HART have been instrumental over three decades by offering invaluable experiences through motorsports participation while integrating learnings into next-generation product development within Honda’s rich history of associate-driven activities.
