ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Launches Rookie Free Practice Session At Jeddah E-Prix For New Drivers

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to introduce a Rookie Free Practice session during the Jeddah E-Prix. This session, scheduled for Thursday, February 13, is designed for drivers who have not previously competed in the Championship. It will offer experienced racers from other motorsport series a chance to explore the innovative GEN3 Evo car technology.

This practice session is exclusively available to seasoned drivers from different racing backgrounds. Participants will need a Free Practice Only e-Licence to join. The GEN3 Evo car provides an opportunity for hands-on experience with cutting-edge Formula E technology, boasting acceleration from 0-62mph in just 1.82 seconds, which is 30% faster than current F1 cars.

Teams are required to nominate a driver and assign a race car number seven days before the event. This means the list of participants will be announced soon. This initiative follows the successful Women's Test held in Madrid last October and highlights Formula E and FIA's dedication to fostering diverse pathways for future racers.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E, expressed excitement about this new session: "Following the success of our Official Women’s Test in November, we're thrilled to introduce this dedicated Rookie Free Practice session at the Jeddah E-Prix. It's a crucial next-step in fulfilling our commitment to nurturing the next generation of racing talent, including young women."

Pablo Martino, Head of Formula E Championship at FIA, emphasized the importance of career development through these sessions: "It’s crucial for the FIA to allow drivers to develop their careers through FIA World Championships, and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has one of the most competitive grids around."
