Tesla Model Y is an SUV
Don't be fooled by the curvy looks and the slopping roofline; The Tesla Model Y does not identify as a sedan or a notchback, but as an SUV. It is built on the same platform as the Tesla Model 3, but with a slightly taller body.
That said, the Tesla Model Y also features an AWD variant, which at least justifies its right to be called as an SUV, unlike some "SUV"s in India that do not even offer AWD as an optional extra.
Tesla Model Y will come in 2 Variants
The Tesla Model Y will be offered in 2 variants - RWD, and AWD. The Tesla Model Y RWD is expected to feature a single rear-mounted electric motor with 295hp and a 62.5kWh battery pack.
On the other hand, the AWD version will pack the long-range battery pack with an approximate rating of 81kWh. This model will pack two electric motors, which together produce 444hp.
Tesla Model Y Performace & Range details
The Tesla Model Y RWD variant is capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201km/h. The CLTC range for the Tesla Model Y is rated as 593km.
On the other hand, the Tesla Model Y AWD variant also tops out at 201km/h, however, it reaches the 100km/h mark from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds. Also, thanks to the larger battery pack, the Tesla Model Y AWD CLTC range is rated at 719km.
Tesla Model Y is Bigger than Images suggest
The Tesla Model Y measures 4,797mm long, 1,982mm wide (with mirrors folded), and 1,624 mm tall. However, the ground clearance of the Tesla Model Y could be of a slight issue as it stands at just 167mm. Moreover, the Tesla Model Y is expected to feature 19-inch wheels to better suit Indian conditions as the optional 20-inch wheels could upset ride quality and range.

The exterior design of the Model Y is sleek and minimalistic, featuring a sloping coupe-like silhouette. It includes LED lights at both ends with connected LED taillights at the rear.

Inside, the minimalist theme continues with a streamlined dashboard dominated by a large 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that controls most functions.
An additional touchscreen unit measuring 8 inches is located at the back of the front centre armrest for second-row passengers. The second row can also be fully folded down to increase cargo space when needed.
Tesla Model Y Pricing could surprise all!
The Tesla Model Y will come to India as a CBU unit from China. However, we expect Tesla to aggressively price the models with a starting price of just Rs 43 lakh (ex-showroom). That said, the long-range AWD variant of the Tesla Model Y is expected to be priced above Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
