Tata Motors has launched the Tata Harrier EV, its most sophisticated electric SUV yet, priced at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This new model is built on the acti.ev plus EV architecture and boasts a futuristic design with impressive performance features. It competes directly with Mahindra's upcoming XEV 9e electric SUV coupe, offering several advantages that may sway buyers.

AWD Capability

The Harrier EV introduces a dual-motor all-wheel drive system to Tata's electric vehicle lineup for the first time. This setup provides a combined output of 396PS, with 158PS from the front motor and 238PS from the rear motor, generating a total torque of 504Nm. This configuration enhances both performance and stability across various road conditions.

Summon Mode

One standout feature of the Harrier EV is its Summon Mode, which allows users to move the vehicle forward or backward at low speeds using the key fob. This function is particularly useful in tight parking spaces or congested areas. While both the Harrier EV and XEV 9e offer auto park assist, only Tata's model includes this manual remote maneuvering capability.

The Harrier EV also offers six terrain modes: Normal, Rock Crawl, Mud Ruts, Snow/Grass, Sand, and a customizable option. These modes enable drivers to navigate diverse road conditions effectively. In contrast, Mahindra's XEV 9e provides only three driving modes-Range, Everyday, and Race-focused more on performance and efficiency rather than specific terrains.

14.5-inch QLED Touchscreen

Inside the cabin, the Harrier EV features a centrally placed 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen developed in collaboration with Samsung. This large screen is visually appealing and functional. On the other hand, Mahindra's XEV 9e offers a futuristic triple-screen setup with a co-passenger display but has a smaller central screen measuring 12.3 inches.

Digital IRVM With Dashcam

A unique aspect of the Harrier EV is its digital inside rearview mirror (IRVM), which displays live footage from a rear-mounted camera located on the sharkfin antenna. This feature provides an unobstructed view of the rear and includes an integrated dashcam for real-time video recording, enhancing security. The XEV 9e only offers a standard auto-dimming IRVM without these additional functionalities.
