“The Icon Is Back”: Renault Duster January 2026 Return Confirmed With Latest Teaser
French automaker Renault is relaunching the iconic Duster SUV in India on January 26, 2026. The company has released a new teaser with the closing message, "The Icon is Back." This compact SUV was the model that kick-started one of the most popular SUV segments in India, and now it's set to return with new colours, features, and a modern design.
The original Renault Duster changed the Indian car market. At a time when SUVs were big, bulky, and expensive, the Duster arrived as a more compact and friendly crossover-like design that still offered the ruggedness, capability, and driving feel. Even after being discontinued, many Indians still have a strong emotional connection with the Duster.
Renault Duster New Teaser
The new teaser reveals the Duster's journey in India and its much-awaited comeback in 2026. It ends with the message: "The SUV that started it all is here to do it again. New Renault Duster. The Icon is Back."
This was the SUV that started the mid-size SUV segment in India, a space now dominated by the Hyundai Creta. Today, the segment is even more competitive with multiple cars and powertrain options. The latest-generation Duster is already on sale globally, and in 2026, Indian buyers will finally get to welcome this icon back to Indian roads.
Expectations
The India-spec model is expected to feature Y-shaped LED DRLs, LED headlamps, a muscular and sculpted design, a taller and wider stance, upright tail styling, silver skid plates, new 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and redesigned front and rear bumpers.
Updated interiors
The cabin will also be completely new compared to the earlier Duster. It looks far more modern and is expected to come equipped with features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, dashboard branding with the Duster logo, Y-shaped AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera.
Safety & Powertrains
For safety, the global model gets eight airbags, electronic stability control, Level 2 ADAS, ABS with EBD, TPMS, and hill-hold assist. The Renault Duster is offered with three engine options: a 1.0-litre Turbo Petrol, a 1.2-litre Mild hybrid Petrol, and a 1.6-litre strong hybrid petrol. Engine options for India will be confirmed closer to the launch.
Pricing Expectations and Rivals
Once launched, the new Renault Duster will compete against its long-time rival, the Hyundai Creta. Other mid-size cars include the Maruti Suzuki Grand Victoris, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Kia Seltos. The Prices for the new-gen Duster are expected to start at around 11 lakh (ex-showroom), considering the average starting price in the segment.
