2026 BMW IX: A Comprehensive Overview Of The Enhanced Electric Sports Activity Vehicle
The new BMW iX, an all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), is set to enhance driving experiences with increased power and efficiency. The 2026 model offers three variants: the iX xDrive45, iX xDrive60, and the performance-focused iX M70 xDrive. Each variant boasts improved horsepower and range, with production starting in March 2025 at BMW's Plant Dingolfing.
The exterior of the BMW iX features a simplified design language, emphasising sportiness. A redesigned grille and headlight structure highlight its front, while the rear end showcases a modern look with large surfaces. The M Sport Package adds dynamic accents like distinctive air intakes and new alloy wheels, enhancing its sporty appearance.
Inside, the BMW iX combines luxury with sportiness. The spacious interior now includes M Multi-Function seats for enhanced support and comfort. These seats offer various adjustments and are available in different materials. The M Sport package also includes an M leather steering wheel and other sporty design elements.
Each BMW iX model benefits from retuned drive systems for spirited power delivery. The iX xDrive45 delivers 402 hp, while the iX xDrive60 offers 536 hp. At the top of the range, the iX M70 xDrive provides up to 650 hp in My Mode Sport. These enhancements result in impressive acceleration times across all models.
The BMW iX incorporates advanced chassis technology for improved dynamics and comfort. Features include a double-wishbone front axle, five-link rear axle, and adaptive two-axle air suspension on select models. These components ensure a balance between sporty handling and ride comfort.
Innovative Charging Solutions
The new BMW iX utilises silicon carbide semiconductor components for efficient energy conversion in its drivetrain. This technology enhances power density and efficiency, contributing to longer ranges. The high-voltage batteries feature advanced management systems for optimal performance.
Charging is made convenient with the Combined Charging Unit (CCU), allowing AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging at higher rates depending on the model. The Plug & Charge Multi Contract function simplifies public charging by eliminating digital authentication requirements.
Enhanced Driving Assistance
The BMW iX offers a wide array of automated driving and parking systems for increased safety and convenience. Standard features include Driving Assistant Plus with various safety aids. Optional packages provide additional capabilities like Parking Assistant Professional for remote-controlled parking maneuvers.
The innovative display system in the BMW iX includes the BMW Curved Display and Operating System 8.5. This setup allows intuitive operation through touch functions or natural speech commands via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
Sustainability Initiatives
BMW is committed to sustainability by increasing secondary raw material use in vehicle production. The company aims to reduce primary material usage through recycling initiatives developed at its Recycling and Dismantling Centre (RDZ). A partnership with SK tes focuses on recycling battery materials like cobalt, nickel, and lithium.
The My BMW App's efficiency trainer helps drivers adopt sustainable driving habits by analysing journeys and offering improvement tips. This digital assistant encourages efficient driving styles to reduce fuel consumption during vehicle use.
