2025 Hyundai Elantra And Sonata Achieve TOP SAFETY PICK+ Awards From IIHS For Enhanced Safety Features
Hyundai has achieved a significant milestone with the Elantra and Sonata models receiving the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This recognition brings Hyundai's total to seven TSP+ awards for 2025. The Elantra, Sonata, IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Kona, Tucson, and Santa Fe have all been acknowledged for their top-tier safety features.
The IIHS has introduced stricter testing criteria for second-row occupant safety in 2025. Vehicles must now achieve an acceptable rating in these updated tests to qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK award. A good rating is necessary to earn the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation. These changes underscore the importance of rear occupant protection in modern vehicles.
Hyundai's commitment to safety is evident through its continuous advancements in vehicle design and technology. "Safety is a priority at Hyundai, and we continually enhance vehicle safety through advanced research, design, engineering, and technology," stated Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America. The recent awards highlight Hyundai's dedication to maintaining leadership in automotive safety.
To qualify for a 2025 TSP/TSP+ award, vehicles must perform well in several tests. These include small overlap front and updated side tests. Additionally, they need an acceptable or good rating in pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations during both day and night conditions. All trims must feature headlights rated as acceptable or good.
