1964 Ferrari 250 LM Triumphs At The Peninsula Classics Best Of The Best Award Ceremony
A 1964 Ferrari 250 LM has been awarded the prestigious The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award 2024. This accolade, presented at The Peninsula Paris, celebrates excellence in classic car design and engineering. The Ferrari was selected from nine vehicles that had previously won major concours events, having secured the Best in Show title at the Cavallino Classic in January 2024.
The Ferrari 250 LM, unveiled in Paris in November 1963, is a Grand Touring version of the mid-engined Ferrari 250 P. Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, it was meant to succeed the successful 250 GTO. Although it didn't receive GT class approval, it triumphed at the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hours and the International Trophy for GT Prototypes.
This particular Ferrari 250 LM is one of only 32 ever made and boasts an impressive racing history from 1965 to 1967. It achieved victories at Brands Hatch, Snetterton, and Silverstone in 1966. Additionally, it participated in iconic endurance races like the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968.
Chris Cox, owner of this remarkable vehicle since 2018, expressed his gratitude: "I am truly humbled to receive this distinguished award. It brings me tremendous joy to show a vehicle with such a rich history at the world’s biggest concours, and being selected for The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award is the highest honour a car collector can achieve."
The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award was established by The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie in 2015 to honour exceptional motorcars. Sponsored by The Peninsula Hotels, this award highlights elite Best of Show winners from global concours events, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate these automotive masterpieces.
Christian Philippsen, co-founder of the award, remarked on the significance of this year's winner: "The winning 1964 Ferrari 250 LM is much more than just a stunning vehicle. This is one of Ferrari’s most revolutionary models, with a rich competitive history and incredible provenance. We are thrilled to honour a motorsport legend of this calibre as this year’s Best of the Best."
