Xtrac Sets Benchmark In Automotive Industry With TISAX® Cyber Security Standard
Xtrac, a leader in vehicle transmission systems for motorsport and high-performance automotive applications, has reinforced its industry position by achieving the international TISAX® standard for information security. "TISAX not only defines protection controls against cyber security issues, but it ensures we protect all information within our business and supply chain during our day-to-day activities. It's a comprehensive approach that involves everyone at Xtrac, not just the IT team," said Neil Randon, chief information officer at Xtrac.
Since 2023, Xtrac has also been assessed to the ISO 27001 standard, applicable across various industries. This standard was first introduced in 2005 and revised in 2013 and 2022 to address evolving cybersecurity challenges. The successful TISAX assessment is not just a milestone for Xtrac but a significant achievement that reflects the collective effort of the automotive and motorsport sectors. This joint commitment to enhancing a company’s information security, demonstrated through this assessment, is a testament to the industry's leadership and dedication to the highest information security standards.
Since its inception in 2017, TISAX has become a globally recognised standard in the automotive industry. It aligns perfectly with Xtrac's commitment to securing data throughout its supply chain. Its focus on critical aspects of information security, such as data protection and connection to third parties, underscores its relevance and applicability. "It’s another example of Xtrac leading the way in the marketplace by fortifying our information security and demonstrating our commitment to staying ahead by prioritising matters crucial to the high-performance automotive and motorsport sectors," says Xtrac’s chief executive Adrian Moore.
The ENX Association developed TISAX with the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) to ensure secure processing of information from business partners. It also protects prototypes and data under GDPR for potential transactions between automobile manufacturers and their suppliers. ENX aims to enable secure collaboration in industrial networks. Founded in 2000, ENX supports cross-company data exchange and sensitive data protection in the automotive industry.
Xtrac exports around 70 per cent of its manufacturing output globally, including Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Xtrac employs nearly 500 highly qualified engineering and technical staff. These employees work on global customer programmes from locations in Berkshire (UK), Indiana (USA), and North Carolina (USA). The company supplies world-class transmission products like gearboxes, differentials, gearchanges, and mechatronic systems for internal combustion engines as well as hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
Half of Xtrac’s business now involves supplying transmissions for hybrid and EVs. The company's focus on performance and reliability has made it a benchmark in motorsport. It supplies many top professional race teams worldwide including Formula One, Formula E, Sportscar racing, touring car racing globally, world rallying, off-road racing, IndyCar, and NASCAR.
Industry Leadership
Xtrac's dedication extends beyond motorsport into high-performance automotive sectors. This segment is growing rapidly as they develop relationships with top hypercar makers. They provide transmission systems for flagship models including hybrids and EVs. Customers rely on their expertise supported by substantial investments in research and innovation.
MiddleGround Capital acquired a majority shareholding in Xtrac in July 2023 through its European office. MiddleGround Capital is an operationally focused US private equity firm investing globally in middle-market B2B industrial companies.
