Xtrac Achieves Two-Star FIA Environmental Accreditation For Sustainability Efforts
Xtrac has earned the Two-Star FIA Environmental Accreditation, marking a significant milestone for the company. "We’re delighted to receive this certification. It’s a big step forward for us and a significant achievement for a Tier 1 motorsport supplier," said Xtrac’s chief executive, Adrian Moore. "It recognises our long-standing commitment to achieving net zero." This accreditation reflects Xtrac's dedication to environmental responsibility in motorsport.
The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme aids stakeholders in evaluating and enhancing their environmental performance. It offers a structured three-level framework for accrediting activities within motorsport and mobility sectors. By participating, organisations can better understand their environmental challenges and work towards continuous improvement.
Moore highlighted that engaging with the FIA programme helps Xtrac identify areas for growth through ongoing improvement processes. "By participating in the FIA programme, we further understand our environmental issues and how to develop through continuous improvement processes, and it puts us in a great position to continue this work and achieve the ultimate Three-Star accreditation," he stated.
The audit process evaluates best practices in environmental management, covering aspects like energy use, waste management, water consumption, pollution control, and carbon emissions monitoring. After an initial assessment by FIA Sustainability auditors, Xtrac submitted supporting documents for an audit using the FIA’s self-assessment tool.
Xtrac's investment in achieving this accreditation aligns with its broader goals of enhancing business operations. The company is also investing in advanced manufacturing equipment and training programmes. This dual focus supports both environmental goals and operational excellence.
Kirsty Knight, Xtrac’s people & culture director, expressed gratitude for the collective effort involved in securing the accreditation. "It was a massive team effort and very worthwhile," she noted. She also thanked Enovation Consulting experts who contributed significantly to reaching this milestone.
Future Goals and Recognition
The Two-Star certification is valid for two years, during which Xtrac aims to further improve its environmental performance. "We aim to continue improving our environmental performance during this period," Knight added. The accreditation enhances Xtrac's credibility with customers and stakeholders.
This achievement sets the stage for pursuing Three-Star accreditation and ISO 14001 EMS certifications. Such recognition underscores Xtrac's commitment to sustainability while maintaining high standards in its industry operations.
