Xiaomi SU7 Electric Car Launched – May End Apple Inc.
After much anticipation, Xiaomi finally launched its first electric car, the SU7. Prices for the new Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan start at 2,15,900 Yuan (approximately Rs 25.34 lakh). This latest model from Xiaomi is available in 9 shades and 3 variants.
Starting with the design, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan looks very attractive with its sporty and youthful design characteristics. This blend of youthfulness and sportiness is further enhanced by a low-slung design and a coupe-like roofline.

However, Xiaomi assures the low roofline will not impact the rear headroom as the model was designed using a dummy that is 1.88 metres tall. In terms of size, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan measures 4997mm long, 1963mm wide, 1440mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 3000mm.
Despite its almost 5-metre length, the Xiaomi SU7 electric has a very short turning radius of 5.7 metres. Unsurprisingly, thanks to its large dimensions, the SU7 has a boot space of 517 litres. In addition to this, the model also sports a 105-litre front boot.

According to Xiaomi, the SU7 comes with adaptive LED headlights with a 400-metre throw, offering great visibility at night. Speaking about visibility, the model also comes equipped with a large 56-inch heads-up display.
On the inside, like many EVs today, the Xiaomi SU7 features a large infotainment unit measuring 16 inches in size. In addition to this, the model also features a fully digital driver's display and 2 Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro tablets.

Xiaomi is known for its mobile phones, as such, the company has given special importance to it by offering a dedicated phone holder with wireless charging, that is in addition to the standard 50W wireless charging pad. The model also features special pockets on the door pad to hold phones.
Some of the standout features on the interior of the Xiaomi SU7 include its large glove box that can accommodate a laptop, a 4.6-litre refrigerator with an anti-wobble mat, underseat umbrella holder, a glass roof, a 25-speaker audio system, active seat bolstering, and a panoramic glass roof.

Though the panoramic glass roof is a fancy feature, it can attract a lot of sunlight and heat. To overcome this, the panoramic glass roof is designed with 99.9% UV isolation and 99.1% infrared isolation. Furthermore, even the windscreen offers 99.5% UV isolation.
Xiaomi also backs up its engineering with a test, where they parked the SU7 alongside a Tesla Model 3 on a 38°C sunny day. After some time, the temperature inside the Tesla Model 3 measured 71.5°C, whereas the temperature inside the SU7 stood at just 59.5°C - A difference of 12°C.

The base-spec SU7 is equipped with a 73.6kWh battery pack, which is good enough to provide a 700km range. This model is powered by a 295bhp electric motor, which can help the model accelerate to 100km/h in 5.28 seconds and attain a top speed of 210km/h.
Next up is the SU7 Pro variant, this model uses a bigger 94.3kWh, resulting in an improved range of 830km. Though the top speed remains the same, the 100km/h sprint now takes 5.7 seconds. This variant is priced at 2,45,900 Yuan (Rs 28.87 Lakh).

It is also worth mentioning that both the above variants of the new Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan use a 400V architecture and can add 350km of range in just 15 minutes of charging. Also, the secret of such a marathon range lies in its low drag coefficient of 0.195.
Finally, the top-spec SU7 Max features a 101kWh battery pack, and the model features AWD capability. The total power out of this variant is rated as 663bhp, and it can help the model accelerate to 100km/h in just 2.78 seconds and reach a top speed of 265km/h.

It is also worth mentioning that the Xiaomi SU7 Max's range stands at 800km and the model is priced at 2,99,900 Yuan (Rs 35.20 lakh). The model can also add 510km of range in 15 minutes, thanks to its 800V architecture.
Thoughts About The Xiaomi SU7 Electric Car
The launch of the Xiaomi SU7 electric car is a giant leap in the Chinese automaker's history. Though it is the company's first electric car, Xiaomi has left quite an impression, not leaving behind even a small concern to address.
Also, Xiaomi has already started to talk about compatibility and eco-system. This means Apple ditching its electric car project and Xiaomi's entry into the EV segment may turn the tides in favour of the Chinese automaker in the near future.
