Innovative Aero-Electric Motorcycle Debuts For Emergency Services And Fleet Use

White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC) has introduced the WMC300E+, a groundbreaking electric motorcycle designed for fleets and first responders. This innovative bike offers a 100-mile range on an emergency services drive cycle and can recharge in under 15 minutes using a standard CCS charger, thanks to a unique battery concept by MAHLE Powertrain.

The WMC300E+ features exceptional aerodynamic performance, achieved through WMC’s patented V-Duct. This venturi duct runs through the centre of the motorcycle, significantly reducing drag, enhancing stability, and lowering energy consumption. This design, refined from WMC’s land-speed record programme, boosts aerodynamic efficiency by 25%.

MAHLE Powertrain developed the bike's unique battery concept, which is key to its rapid charging capability. The T-shaped battery pack maximises mass centralisation and fits within the bike’s complex packaging constraints. It uses advanced Lithium Cobalt Oxide with Nickel Manganese Aluminium chemistry, ensuring high charge rates and long lifespan.

Robert White, Founder & CEO of WMC, highlighted the industry's challenge in creating electric motorcycles with performance comparable to petrol models. He stated, "Meeting that demand while complying with forthcoming legislation and helping to achieve all fleet’s net-zero ambitions has required clean-sheet engineering thinking." The WMC300E+ was developed using F1-inspired processes and techniques.

Jonathan Hall, Head of Research at MAHLE Powertrain, praised their collaborative effort with WMC. "Starting with a clean-sheet design... our team have worked closely with WMC to deliver the engineering solutions needed to meet their ambitious targets," he said.

Practical Features for First Responders

The WMC300E+ is designed with practical features for emergency responders. Its battery pack includes cooling features that enhance thermal performance and ensure even temperature profiles across the pack. The DC-DC converter allows direct connection of the traction motor, charger, and 12V system, simplifying implementation.

The bike's design also retains practical under-seat storage despite its generous 11.9 kWh capacity. This space-efficient design can accommodate a full-face helmet and powers ancillary equipment like lights and sirens.

Sustainability Focus

The project aligns with WMC’s sustainability goals by using recycled carbon-fibre in construction and reducing rare earth materials in the battery pack. The fast-charging capability minimises downtime, making it ideal for rapid response fleets.

The new WMC300E+ made its debut at Cenex Expo 2024 from 4-5th September at UTAC Millbrook. This event showcased its potential to revolutionise fleet operations globally by offering zero-emissions transport with improved acceleration compared to petrol equivalents.

The bike's striking design enhances rider visibility—a crucial feature for emergency roles—and can be ridden on a standard car licence without specialist training. This makes it suitable for paramedic first responders and last-mile delivery services.

Partially funded by the Advanced Propulsion Centre’s ARMD2 programme, this project builds on the success of the hybrid three-wheeled WMC300FR motorcycle developed with Northamptonshire Police.

White Motorcycle Concepts aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the motorcycle industry through innovative technologies that enhance efficiency. They collaborate with high-level engineering organisations to support the automotive shift away from fossil fuels.

MAHLE Powertrain specialises in designing advanced internal combustion engines and electrified powertrain systems. They provide cost-effective solutions for enhanced efficiency and lower emissions through extensive research and development.
