Battle Of The EVs: Windsor Vs Curvv Vs Nexon Vs XUV400

MG recently introduced the Windsor EV in India, starting at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This price excludes the battery cost, which is an additional Rs 3.5 per kilometre driven. The Windsor EV faces competition from electric SUVs like Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the newly launched Curvv EV.

Dimensions Comparison

The Tata Curvv EV is the longest among these vehicles, measuring 4,310mm. The Windsor follows closely at 4,295mm. In terms of width, the Windsor leads with 1,850mm. It also stands tallest at 1,677mm and has the longest wheelbase of 2,800mm. The Nexon EV boasts the highest ground clearance of up to 205mm.

Boot space is another area where the Windsor excels with a capacity of 604 litres. Both the Windsor and Curvv EV come with 18-inch wheels, while the Nexon EV and XUV400 have 16-inch units. Despite its MPV-like stance, the Windsor seats only five passengers across two rows.

Powertrain and Range

All four models feature a front-mounted single electric motor setup. The Tata Curvv EV is the most powerful with up to 167hp. The Mahindra XUV400 offers the highest torque at 310Nm and is also the quickest, achieving a 0-100kph time of 8.3 seconds.

The Windsor's 38kWh battery provides a range of 331km per charge. This surpasses only the Nexon EV's smaller battery pack range of 275km. The Curvv EV leads with a range of up to 502km from its largest battery pack according to MIDC test cycles.

Price Comparison

The MG Windsor starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for its base Excite variant. However, this price does not include the battery cost, which adds Rs 3.5 per kilometre driven. This pricing strategy makes it more affordable initially compared to its rivals.

The Tata Curvv EV is priced between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh (introductory prices). Meanwhile, Tata Motors has temporarily reduced Nexon EV prices by up to Rs 3 lakh until October 31, 2024, making it available between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 16.29 lakh during this period.

The Mahindra XUV400's pricing ranges from Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices include battery costs unlike MG's model.

That being said, while each vehicle has its strengths in dimensions or powertrain features, MG's unique pricing model for the Windsor could attract budget-conscious buyers looking for an electric vehicle option in India.
