Volvo Celebrates Milestone of Selling 1,000 Electric Vehicles in India

The market for electric vehicles (EVs) in India is gradually expanding. Currently, a significant number of EVs are being sold in the two-wheeler scooter segment, while the sales of electric cars are also on the rise. Despite being more expensive than petrol and diesel cars, many consumers are opting for electric cars.

Electric versions of regular low-cost petrol and diesel cars are priced higher, and luxury car manufacturers are also entering the EV market with high-priced models. Volvo is one such manufacturer making strides in this sector.

Volvo s 1 000 EV Sales Milestone in India

Volvo introduced its first electric vehicles to the Indian market in November 2022. Now, after about a year and a half, the company has reached a significant milestone by selling one thousand electric cars in India. This achievement reflects the growing interest in electric cars among Indian consumers.

Volvo aims to convert all its vehicles to electric by 2030. To achieve this goal, the company plans to introduce a new electric car each year and expects positive responses from consumers.

The first electric car Volvo introduced in India was the XC40 Recharge. This model is imported in parts and assembled locally. Currently, Volvo sells two electric car models in India: the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge.

Specifications of Volvo XC40 Recharge

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is available as a single motor variant, delivering 238 bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque. It offers a range of up to 592 kilometers on a single charge. The company's overall sales data shows that 28% of its sales were from electric cars.

Sales Growth and Market Performance

Compared to last year, Volvo's electric car sales have increased by 31% this year. The company has achieved a new milestone by selling 1,000 electric cars in India.

Internationally, Volvo had impressive sales in May, with a total of 68,034 cars sold. The EX30 model received a positive response in the European market, contributing to a 27% sales growth there. However, sales declined by five percent in the US and one percent in China.

DriveSpark Thinks

In India, Volvo cars are perceived as high-quality products. However, they are also considered expensive, making them accessible primarily to affluent consumers.

Volvo's efforts to sell electric vehicles in India are evident as the company plans to transition entirely to electric cars in the future. Selling one thousand electric cars marks a significant milestone for Volvo in the Indian market.
