The EX30's interior design features a reduction in components, such as a centrally positioned array of window controls and a sound bar for in-car audio instead of multiple speakers. The innovative finish includes woven flax, textile fibres from recycled denim jeans, and plastics sourced from recycled window frames. Additionally, Nordico seat upholstery is made from recyclables like PET bottles and bio-attributed materials from Scandinavian forests.

Nicole Melillo Shaw, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK, expressed pride in receiving the award: "The Marie Claire UK sustainability award gives great recognition to our efforts to reduce carbon, specifically in an area where people can see close-up what can be achieved. The EX30’s interior shows just what high-quality, visual and tactile appeal can be created using recycled and recovered materials."

The awards are now in their fourth year and celebrate innovative products and business models that contribute to building a better future. Winners were chosen by a judging panel that included experts from Marie Claire UK and Seismic, a B Corp sustainability advisory firm.

Lifecycle Focus

Volvo Cars' approach to reducing the carbon footprint of the EX30 encompasses every aspect of the vehicle's lifecycle. Suppliers have committed to using 100% renewable energy, while production processes have been streamlined for emissions efficiency and materials traceability. Recycled materials are utilised wherever possible in the construction of the EX30.

The company aims for 95% of the EX30's content to be recoverable at the end of its useful life, with the remainder suitable for energy recovery. These efforts align with Volvo Cars' global goal to reduce CO2 emissions per car by 65-75% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels.

The recognition from Marie Claire UK underscores Volvo Cars' comprehensive strategy towards sustainability and innovation in automotive design. The EX30 sets a new benchmark for future models as Volvo continues its journey towards carbon neutrality.
