Volvo EX30 Electric Car Achieves Perfect 5-Star Rating In Crash Tests
Volvo is renowned globally for producing safe vehicles, akin to Tata and Mahindra in India. Reinforcing this reputation, a Volvo electric car recently achieved a perfect 5-star rating in a crash test. This model is anticipated to debut in India soon.
With the rise in global car ownership, the demand for safer vehicles has surged. Car manufacturers have consistently aimed to enhance safety by using top-quality materials and technologies. The introduction of NCAP crash test results has spurred healthy competition among automakers. Various NCAP organizations now conduct tests worldwide, including the Bharat NCAP crash test launched by the Indian government in late 2023.

The Euro NCAP crash test organization evaluates cars in Europe. As a Swedish manufacturer, many Volvo models have undergone these tests over the years. Recently, the Volvo EX30 electric car was tested by Euro NCAP, achieving a full 5-star rating. Despite being smaller than other expensive Volvo models, this electric SUV scored over 79 in all Euro NCAP crash test categories.
In terms of adult safety, the Volvo EX30 scored 88 out of 100, earning 35.3 points. The Euro NCAP testers noted inadequate knee protection for front-seat passengers during frontal impacts. However, other body parts received excellent protection during these impacts.

The EX30 electric car scored 85 for child safety with 42 points. Tests involved dummies representing 6-year-old and 10-year-old children. Despite a good score, the absence of a child presence detection system lowered its rating. For pedestrian safety, the car scored only 79.
In side impacts, front-seat passengers had excellent protection, but rear-seat passengers were less protected. Front airbags effectively shielded dummies' heads during these impacts. Volvo demonstrated that passengers could exit through doors and windows if submerged.

DriveSpark Thinks
DriveSpark notes that while many cars score low on pedestrian safety, 79 is below Volvo's usual standards. Interestingly, the EX30 scored higher on child safety than adult safety. The Volvo EX30 electric car is expected to launch in India by mid-2025.
