Volvo Confirms Launch of EX90 & EX30 Electric SUVs By 2025 In India: Begining Of A New Era
Volvo Cars India has confirmed its plans to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup in India with the launch of the EX30 and EX90 electric SUVs by the year 2025, adding to the current EV lineup of the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.
Jyoti Malhotra, MD of Volvo Cars India, shared this information during a recent media interaction, while also stating the company's interest in local assembly for both the EX30 and the EX90 EVs SUVs.
Jyoti Malhotra also stated that in 2023, Volvo India saw a 31 per cent increase in sales volume, which was encouraging, but what was more encouraging was the increase in EV adoption among consumers.
In 2023, Volvo sold 690 EVs in India, 180 units of the C40 Recharge (only on sale for the last quarter of the year) and the remaining 519 units were of the XC40 Recharge (on sale through the year). Volvo anticipates that 50% of luxury car sales in India will be EVs by 2030.
Volvo currently manufactures cars in China, Sweden, and the US. However, they are looking at India as a potential home for a new manufacturing plant. Volvo is yet to make a decision.
The EX90 is Volvo's flagship EV, offering a seven-eater configuration. It has a 111kWh battery providing a range of 600km on the WLTP cycle and produces up to 514bhp of power.
On the other hand, the EX30 is their entry-level electric SUV, based on Geely's SEA platform (also shared with the Jeep Avenger EV) and shares similarities with the flagship EX90. It comes with a 69kWh battery and delivers 427hp of power in its top-spec Twin Motor Performance model.
Volvo is expected to introduce new variants of the XC40 and C40 Recharge lineup in 2024, which might include entry-level variants with a 69kWh battery pack for both models.
