Volvo Hits Major Milestone With 10,000th Made-In-India Car
In the swiftly evolving landscape of luxury vehicles in India, Volvo Car India has recently celebrated a significant production landmark. The company's Hoskote plant, just outside the tech city of Bengaluru, witnessed the making of its 10,000th car.
This significant milestone bearing car is the automaker's XC40 Recharge electric SUV. This momentous event underscores Volvo's commitment to the premium electric vehicle market and its growing appeal among Indian consumers.

Volvo's Manufacturing Excellence in India
Since commencing local assembly operations back in 2017, Volvo has been amplifying its presence in India. The XC60 SUV also resonated well with the Indian audience, representing approximately 40% of the total production with over 4,000 units crafted on Indian soil.
The state-of-the-art facility in Hoskote, is equipped to assemble a range of models including the XC90, XC60, S90, XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge. It's a facility that's not just keeping pace with technological advancements but is at the forefront of the EV revolution, having proudly assembled India's first homegrown electric vehicle, the XC40 Recharge.
The Electric Shift - Volvo's Green Trajectory
Volvo's pivot towards electric vehicles is not confined to the Indian market. The brand has been gradually phasing out combustion engines on a global scale, with a growing fleet of electric vehicles taking centre stage. The discontinuation of the standard XC40 SUV in India, in favour of its electric counterpart, reflects a strategic shift towards sustainability.
With a price tag of Rs 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volvo XC40 Recharge is now Volvo's entry point into the world of luxury EVs for Indian consumers, with promises of more models, such as the much-anticipated EX90, on the horizon.
Volvo's Nationwide Presence and Future Aspirations
From its inception in India in 2007, Volvo has expanded its network to 25 dealerships across the nation's metropolises, making it a notable player in the luxury car segment. At these dealerships, customers can experience the hallmark Scandinavian design and cutting-edge safety features that Volvo is renowned for.
Reflecting on the manufacturing triumph, Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, expressed pride in the swift achievement despite nearly three years of pandemic-induced challenges. He highlighted the increased capacities at the Bangalore facility as a reflection of Volvo's dedication to India's luxury mobility sector.
Gao Feng, Production Head at Volvo Car India, also emphasized the significance of the 10,000th car milestone, the skill enhancements undertaken by the team, and the successful assembly of electric vehicles.
Thoughts About Volvo's Latest Milestone Achievement
As Volvo continues to steer towards a greener future with its electric offerings, its commitment to Indian consumers remains steadfast, promising a journey that is luxurious, sustainable, and deeply connected to the evolving preferences of India's discerning car buyers.
