Volkswagen Tharu XR Unveiled: Latest SUV Tailored For China
Volkswagen has unveiled the Tharu XR SUV, which will be exclusive to China for now. This new model is a slightly extended version of the Taigun available in India. The Tharu XR features a spacious five-seat cabin and is powered by a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. It also shares design elements with the latest Volkswagen SUVs.
The Tharu XR is built on the MQB A0 platform, which is also used for the Taigun, Kushaq, Slavia, and Virtus in India. Despite having the same 2651mm wheelbase as these models, the Tharu XR is 134mm longer, measuring 4,355mm in length.
This extra length is noticeable behind the rear wheels, giving it a more balanced look compared to the Taigun's shorter rear overhang and upright tailgate.
Volkswagen Tharu XR Design and Features
In terms of design, the Tharu XR shares many components with the Taigun, including doors and most body panels. However, it features new headlamps, grille, and front bumper styling.
The dark-tinted, connected tail-lamps with transparent lenses add a premium touch to the Tharu XR. Additionally, its rear bumper is larger and includes more contrasting faux-aluminium elements.
The SUV will be equipped with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine available in multiple states of tune. While Volkswagen has not disclosed details about the Tharu XR's interior, it is expected to resemble the Taigun's cabin with some cosmetic changes and additional features.
It remains uncertain whether the Tharu XR will offer a larger boot as a five-seater or include an extra row of seats to accommodate six or seven passengers.
Market Availability Volkswagen Tharu XR
Initially, the Tharu XR will be available only in China. There are no current plans for its release in India. Volkswagen continues to expand its SUV lineup with models like the ID.7 GTX, which boasts a 340hp AWD setup. Meanwhile, Indian customers can benefit from discounts of up to Rs 1.80 lakh on MY23 stocks of the Taigun and Virtus.
The introduction of the Tharu XR highlights Volkswagen's strategy to cater to different markets with tailored models. The SUV's design enhancements and spacious cabin aim to attract consumers seeking both style and practicality.
