Volkswagen Unveils Taigun Pickup Truck Concept As Part Of Student Project
In an innovative approach to education and skill development, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has showcased a unique one-off Taigun pickup truck concept, a result of a meticulous nine-month student project.
This initiative is a part of the company's Skill India efforts, aiming to blend learning with practical experience in the automotive industry. Following the creation of a Skoda Rapid convertible last year, this year's project brings to life a pickup version of the popular Taigun SUV, marking the second one-off endeavor by the students.
The Taigun pickup truck concept is essentially a fusion of the Taigun and Virtus models, both of which rest on the Volkswagen Group's MQB A0 IN platform. The project journey encompassed several stages including conceptualization, market research, design, and development, leading up to the final product testing. A notable aspect of this undertaking is the inclusion of 3D printed components, showcasing an innovative approach to vehicle manufacturing.
The culmination of this project resulted in a Taigun pickup truck equipped with specialized accessories like underbody protection and studded tyres. Additionally, it features ambient lighting and exclusive roof-mounted lights, enhancing its appearance as a rugged pickup. The vehicle's stature has also been elevated, giving it a more commanding presence on the road.
Despite its impressive design and functionality, there are no plans for this Taigun pickup concept to enter mass production. However, Volkswagen hinted at the possibility of a Taigun-based pickup back in 2018 with the introduction of the Volkswagen Tarok at the Sao Paulo auto show.
This concept aimed to cater to markets where monocoque pickup trucks are in demand, such as South America and South Africa, planning to succeed the Volkswagen Saveiro that was phased out in 2023.
The SAVWIPL Academy's Dual Vocational Training in mechatronics is a key element of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India's vocational program. Launched in 2011, this 3.5-year full-time course is modeled after Germany's successful vocational training system.
It aims to nurture young talent by instilling confidence, creativity, and a problem-solving mindset. Students are encouraged to explore and innovate, gaining valuable insights into automotive technologies, industry trends, and the standards of the VW Group.
