Volkswagen Polo Track Launched – More Ground Clearance, Vinyl Seats Make It Ideal For Rural Markets

Volkswagen recently introduced the new Polo Track hatchback in Brazil. Though this new Polo hatchback sports a 'Track' moniker, it has nothing to do with a racetrack. In fact, this iteration of the Polo hatchback is probably the farthest of any Polo iteration to a racetrack.

Starting with the obvious, this new Volkswagen Polo Track hatchback comes with a raised suspension and slightly basic exterior and interior trims to handle the rugged terrains of rural Brazil.

Apart from the raised suspension, the interior of the Volkswagen Polo Track is designed to handle the rough conditions of rural Brazil. This means the Polo Track comes equipped with easy-to-clean vinyl seats instead of fabric seats and washable rubber floor mats.

It is also worth mentioning that, despite being a modern vehicle, Volkswagen has not offered a touchscreen infotainment unit in the new Polo Track hatchback. However, do not be fooled by its spartan nature as the model comes equipped with modern features under the skin.

Some of these modern features in the new Volkswagen Polo Track hatchback include features such as ABS, ESC, Differential Lock, Hill Start Assist, and Traction Control unit. In contrast, Volkswagen has equipped the model with a conventional halogen headlamp unit.

Powering the Volkswagen Polo Track is a tried-and-tested 1.0-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This unit in the Polo Track is tuned to produce 84bhp and 101Nm of peak torque. Also, the model comes equipped with a no-nonsense 5-speed manual gearbox.

Though this engine may seem underpowered and inadequate for rural Brazil, in reality, this engine offers everything a rural buyer is looking for - Simplicity, ease of maintenance, fuel efficiency, and proven reliability.

Though the Volkswagen Polo Track may seem like an ideal entry-level model for India, the chances of the model getting launched in India are next to zero. This is because the new Volkswagen Polo measures more than 4m, so it will fall under the small car category (more tax).

Thoughts About The Volkswagen Polo Track

The new Volkswagen Polo is a brilliant hatchback, and the latest Track variant of the hatchback makes it very ideal as an entry-level model for India. However, if launched in India, the model will be a lot more expensive than its immediate rivals, making it a failure from the get-go.
