The new R models are based on the eighth generation of the Golf, which received significant updates this year. The redesigned front features LED Plus headlights, an illuminated VW badge, and air curtains in the bumper. New LED tail light clusters enhance the rear design. Optional 19-inch "Warmenau" forged wheels are available, weighing just eight kilograms each and providing efficient brake cooling.

The infotainment system has been upgraded with new hardware and software, featuring a large 32.8 cm (10.9 inches) display. The touch display now includes improved graphics and a fresh menu structure. The touch sliders for automatic climate control and volume control have also been revamped. Additionally, the voice assistant IDA now uses AI-based software "ChatGPT" for answering questions.

The interior of the Golf R models is designed with a focus on driver ergonomics and refined in the "R" style. Top sports seats with integrated head restraints are standard for both driver and front passenger. An optional black nappa leather interior with carbon-look elements and blue applications is available. Real carbon interior applications can also be chosen as an option.

The Digital Cockpit Pro comes as standard in these models, featuring a display diagonal of 26 cm. It offers an enhanced Sport Skin with a central round rev counter in an R-specific design and an R-View with a horizontal rpm display.

Performance and Dynamics

The new Golf R models deliver impressive performance with their 245 kW (333 PS) output from a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. This system improves driving stability by distributing power individually to the rear wheels during cornering.

The torque stands at 420 Nm, ensuring robust performance across various driving conditions. The optional R-Performance package not only increases top speed but also adds two additional modes: Drift and Special mode tailored for Nürburgring Nordschleife conditions.

Advanced Chassis Control

The Vehicle Dynamics Manager optimises driving experience by coordinating lateral dynamic components of the DCC running gear. Adaptive chassis control (DCC), standard in vehicles sold in Germany, continuously reacts to road surfaces and driving situations by considering steering, braking, and acceleration manoeuvres.

This technology ensures maximum driving comfort while maintaining optimum dynamics, allowing these new R-models to balance everyday usability with sporty performance seamlessly.

Exclusive Black Edition

The Golf R Black Edition stands out with its sophisticated dark look featuring darker VW badges and logos, black brake callipers with dark logos, black 19-inch Estoril wheels, and black tailpipe trims. Darkened IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are also standard in this edition.

This exclusive model includes the R-Performance package as part of its standard equipment, which is optional for other models.

A Legacy of Performance

Volkswagen's premium performance brand has been offering special models for over two decades under Volkswagen R. These models combine enhanced performance features with expressive design elements that appeal to fans worldwide.

The success story of the Golf R began in 2002 with the legendary Golf R32. Since then, over 250,000 units have been sold across its five generations.

In recent years, Volkswagen has maintained its position as the UK's best-selling new-car brand for three consecutive years according to SMMT data from 2023. Globally, Volkswagen delivered around 4.87 million vehicles last year including popular models like Polo, T-Roc, T-Cross among others along with successful all-electric ID series cars.
