Volkswagen UK Joins Forces With OVO For Sustainable EV Charging Solutions
Volkswagen Group UK has teamed up with energy experts OVO to offer customers better rates and bonuses, making it easier and cheaper to switch to electric vehicles. Starting from 1 July 2024, buyers of Volkswagen Group brands like Audi, CUPRA, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles can benefit from OVO’s ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on and other perks.
Under this partnership, Volkswagen Group customers can charge their vehicles at home for just 7p/kWh at any time. The Charge Anytime add-on uses Kaluza’s smart software to enable charging when carbon emissions and prices are lower. This has saved customers over £10 million since its launch in 2022.
Customers who sign up with OVO will receive 10,000 free miles initially and an additional 1,000 free miles on their contract anniversary for the next three years. Diesel and petrol car drivers can also accumulate thousands of EV miles through OVO Beyond, the UK’s first ‘Energy Savings Account,’ which rewards those planning to switch to electric vehicles.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen Group renewed its home charging and wallbox partnership with Ohme. Adding OVO to the mix means that Volkswagen Group and its retailers can now offer a complete package of EV ownership support, including energy recommendations.
The Volkswagen Group sold over 771,000 electric vehicles globally in 2023, a significant increase from the previous year. In the UK alone, it was responsible for one in every five battery electric passenger cars sold. The company registered 427,431 passenger cars in the UK in 2023, achieving a market share of 22.46 per cent.
Kate Jeffreys, Electric Vehicle Lead for Volkswagen Group UK, commented on the partnership: "Following a thorough tender process, we were delighted to join forces with OVO to offer Volkswagen Group customers a solution for clean, affordable and simple energy. On top of our Ohme partnership for home charging, we believe the agreement with OVO breaks down more barriers for customers who are looking to make the switch to an electric vehicle."

This collaboration between Volkswagen Group UK and OVO aims to simplify the transition to electric vehicles while offering cost-effective energy solutions. By providing incentives like free miles and intelligent grid technology for cheaper charging rates, they hope more consumers will make the switch to greener transportation options.
