Volkswagen Group Launches Project For All-Electric Entry-Level Mobility In Europe

The Volkswagen Group has announced plans to introduce affordable electric vehicles priced at around EUR 20,000, with a world premiere scheduled for 2027. This initiative aims to make all-electric entry-level mobility more accessible across Europe. The project underscores Volkswagen's commitment to providing affordable, sustainable mobility solutions.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, stated, "Generations of people associate the strong brands of the Volkswagen Group with their first car – and with affordable mobility. As a group with strong brands, we continue to assume this social responsibility to this day. That's why I'm very pleased that we're launching a future-oriented project. It’s about entry-level electric mobility from Europe for Europe."

Volkswagen Group Launches Project for All-Electric Entry-Level Mobility

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Brand Group Core, added, "Our brand promise is: electromobility for all. In the Brand Group Core we deliver on this promise. Despite the attractive price, our electric cars will set standards in the entry-level segment in terms of technology, design, quality, and customer experience."

The Volkswagen Group has been working towards offering compact and inexpensive electric vehicles within the price range of EUR 20,000. This initiative aligns with the Group's promise to create mobility for all and facilitate entry into e-mobility. The project also highlights Volkswagen's social responsibility towards affordable and sustainable mobility.

Blume emphasized the importance of this project by saying, "In doing so, we combine a clear commitment to Europe as an industrial location, a European industrial policy and ultimately act in the interests of European customers."

Schäfer acknowledged the challenges posed by rising energy, material, and raw material costs but remained optimistic about the project's success. He noted that political support and competitive framework conditions are crucial for the success of electromobility from Europe for Europe.

Volkswagen plans to rely on a high degree of localisation in Europe for this project. This approach benefits Europe as an industrial location by reducing long transport routes for components and consequently lowering CO2 emissions.

Upcoming Electric Vehicles

The project is part of Volkswagen's broader strategy to make electromobility widespread in Europe. Intensive work is already underway on the "Electric Urban Car Family," which aims to present electric cars priced under EUR 25,000 by the end of 2025. This includes two new compact cars from VW and CUPRA and two small SUVs from Škoda and VW, all set to be built in Spain.

With this new initiative for all-electric entry-level mobility priced at EUR 20,000, Volkswagen is taking a consistent step forward in its commitment to affordable electric vehicles.
