Volkswagen’s ID Buzz GTX: Retro Meets Modern Electric Performance

Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the introduction of the ID Buzz GTX, a new variant that combines a retro exterior with advanced performance features.

This model joins the GTX family, including the ID 3 GTX and the ID7 GTX tourer, and stands out with its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain, which it shares with the ID7 GTX tourer. The ID Buzz GTX will be available in two wheelbase options, catering to different needs and preferences.

Volkswagen ID Buzz GTX

The ID Buzz GTX is not just about looks; it also promises impressive performance metrics. This range-topping model sees an increase in power to 330hp up from the standard model's 195hp, and torque has been boosted to 560Nm.

These enhancements allow the ID Buzz GTX to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 6.6 seconds. Furthermore, its towing capacity has been raised significantly, from 1,000kg to 1,800kg.

When it comes to battery life and charging, the ID Buzz GTX impresses with its 79kWh and 86kWh battery options for the short and long wheelbase models, respectively. While the official range is yet to be announced, estimates suggest a single charge could cover between 386-402km. The charging capabilities are equally noteworthy, with the smaller battery supporting up to 185kW and the larger one peaking at 200kW, allowing for rapid recharging.

Design and Comfort: The ID Buzz GTX Experience

The exterior of the ID Buzz GTX retains the beloved retro-inspired design of the original model but introduces sporty enhancements for the GTX variant. This includes a new front bumper design, distinctive 'arrowhead' LED daytime running headlights, a honeycomb grille, and gloss black trim. Customers can choose between 19-inch wheels or opt for the larger 21-inch alloys for a more commanding presence.

The interior of the ID Buzz GTX is designed with comfort and technology in mind. The 'comfort' seats feature red stitching and GTX lettering, contributing to the vehicle's sporty feel. A 12.9-inch touchscreen, shared with the ID3 GTX, provides access to Volkswagen's latest software, enhancing the driving experience. The long-wheelbase variant offers an optional electronically controlled panoramic sunroof, the largest ever in a Volkswagen vehicle, adding a luxurious touch.

DriveSpark Thinks

For the Indian market, Volkswagen is planning to introduce the ID4 crossover soon and is also developing affordable EVs tailored to the preferences of Indian consumers.

In addition to the ID Buzz GTX, Volkswagen has recently unveiled the Virtus GT Plus Sport and the Taigun GT Plus Sport, GT Line, alongside a sneak peek at the interior of the India-bound Volkswagen Tayron, signaling the brand's commitment to expanding its portfolio in India with a focus on performance and innovation.
