Volkswagen Enhances Vehicle Safety With New Collision Avoidance Alerts In VW Car-Net Services

Volkswagen of America has introduced new safety alerts for its vehicles. These alerts notify drivers of potential roadside hazards and inform oncoming traffic if a Volkswagen vehicle is disabled. Available in most MY24 and MY25 models, these features are part of the VW Car-Net Safe & Secure subscription at no extra cost.

When a Volkswagen vehicle becomes disabled, drivers can activate Vehicle H.E.L.P. mode. This sends digital alerts to certain oncoming vehicles, warning them of the disabled car ahead. Activation can be manual via hazard lights or automatic when airbags deploy.

New Collision Alerts Added to VW Car-Net

Volkswagen is pioneering the integration of H.E.L.P. (Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol) and Road Awareness alerts in the U.S. These alerts are part of a connected vehicle service suite aimed at enhancing road safety for all users.

Road Awareness Alerts provide Volkswagen drivers with notifications about nearby disabled vehicles or emergency responders. These alerts use cellular-vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology to give drivers more time to react to potential dangers.

"Putting these collision avoidance alerts into Volkswagen vehicles advances our commitment to the safety of both our drivers and all others who are on the road," said Rachael Zaluzec, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience and Brand Marketing at Volkswagen of America.

The Safe & Secure plan includes Emergency Assistance through an SOS button in the vehicle. This connects drivers to the Volkswagen Response Center for help during emergencies via a secure cellular link.

Advanced Technology Integration

Frank Weith, Director of Engineering Connected Services at Volkswagen Group of America, stated, "By working with Emergency Safety Solutions to implement H.E.L.P., Volkswagen continues to deliver on our mission to help make roads safer and lead the way in automotive safety technology."

This initiative showcases Volkswagen's commitment to using real-time vehicle-to-everything (V2X) data for accurate hazard notifications. Unlike other apps that rely on crowd-sourced data, this system provides precise updates.

Subscription Details

The Car-Net Safe & Secure plan offers five years of free service from the original purchase date for most MY24 and newer models. After this period, a paid subscription is needed to continue using these services.

Connected services require a myVW account, cellular connectivity, and acceptance of terms. Not all features are available on every model, and some may need software updates or additional payments for third-party services like towing.
