VinFast Eyes Indian Market With Compact SUV & Crossover: Launch By 2025

VinFast is setting its sights on India with plans to launch two imported models by the second half of FY2025. These models, a compact SUV and a crossover hatchback, will be introduced through the CBU route, taking advantage of the new EV policy announced by the Government of India.

The move signifies VinFast's ambitious entry into one of the world's fastest-growing EV markets, with local assembly slated to begin in Tamil Nadu in 2025. The company's foray into India is expected to heat up competition in the electric SUV and crossover segments, challenging established players.

Among VinFast's six-model global EV portfolio, the VF e34 and VF 5 EVs are tipped to be the frontrunners for the Indian roads. Despite their imported status, these models are anticipated to be priced competitively, aiming to offer a compelling alternative to the likes of the Nexon EV, and XUV400.

The VinFast VF 5, also known as the VF 5 Plus, is a compact electric SUV positioned to rival the Tata Nexon EV. It features a 37.23kWh battery pack that powers a 136bhp, 135Nm electric motor, offering a range of 326km as per NEDC standards.

With dimensions slightly smaller than the Nexon EV, the VF 5 boasts modern tech including a 7.0-inch digital driver display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags, and ADAS technology.

On the other hand, the VinFast VF e34, a high-riding hatchback with SUV design elements, is set to compete against the upcoming Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta EV. Powered by a 41.9kWh battery, the VF e34's electric motor delivers 150bhp and 242Nm, ensuring a range of 318.6km on the NEDC cycle.

VinFast's plans to localize production in India by 2025 include importing batteries from its Indonesian plant. The company is currently finalizing its market strategy and dealership network, with CEO Pham Sanh Chau stating VinFast's commitment to offering a wide range of world-class EV products to Indian customers.
