VinFast India Plant Construction Set to Begin on February 25

VinFast Auto has officially announced the commencement of construction at its integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing site in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, starting on February 25, 2024. This milestone comes after VinFast signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government on January 6, 2024, marking a big move in VinFast's global expansion plan.

The swift initiation of the EV manufacturing plant just over a month after the MoU's announcement underscores VinFast's determination and rapid rollout speed in expanding its presence in one of the world's fastest-growing major economies and blossoming EV market.

The EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu is expected to create approximately 3,000 to 3,500 local job opportunities and aims to become a premier electric vehicle production hub in the region. With an annual capacity of up to 150,000 units, the facility will not only address development goals in the Indian market but also support VinFast's export program for South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African countries.

Furthermore, the project aligns with India's green transportation development agenda, aiming to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector. The government targets 30 percent of newly registered private cars to be electric, highlighting the importance of initiatives like VinFast's investment in electric vehicle manufacturing in the country.

Meanwhile, VinFast's targets include sales of 100,000 EVs in 2024. With its recent entry into the US market, VinFast aims to enhance its competitiveness in other markets, particularly in untapped, volume-driven markets like India and Indonesia.
