Vesco And Salvinelli Secure Unprecedented Fourth Consecutive Victory At 1000 Miglia 2024
Saturday, 15 June - The 2200-kilometre journey of the 1000 Miglia 2024 has concluded. The 421 participating crews, with their vintage vehicles built between 1927 and 1957, followed the classic route from Brescia to Rome and back in an anti-clockwise direction, mirroring the path taken by the pioneers of the early editions of the 1000 Miglia.
The leg finishes included Turin (for the first time in its history), Viareggio, Rome, and San Lazzaro di Savena, before returning to Brescia. The final parade took place from the Viale Venezia platform.
Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli achieved a historic feat by becoming champions for the fourth consecutive time in their 1929 Alfa Romeo 6c 1750 Ss Spider Zagato. This record is unprecedented in the history of the race. For Vesco, it marks his fifth consecutive victory (out of seven total), having also won in 2020 with his father.
"We are happy, how could we not be! We prepare to do great things and we are happy because this year we were in front from the first trial and we always kept the lead. We did very well and now we will enjoy this victory," commented Andrea Vesco.
Competitive Spirit
While Vesco and Salvinelli led from the start at Brescia Castle, there was fierce competition behind them. Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli secured second place with their 1927 Lancia Lambda Casaro VII Serie. Alberto Aliverti and Stefano Valente followed in third place, also driving a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C.
Ferrari Tribute Winners
The Ferrari Tribute saw Frank Binder and Giordano Mozzi clinch first place in a 296 GTS. Celestino and Antonio Sangiovanni came second in an 812 GTS, while Gianluigi and Federico Smussi completed the podium in a 1996 F355 GTS.
1000 Miglia Green and Experience
Mirco Magni and Alessandro Ferruta won the 1000 Miglia Green category with a Polestar 2. The 1000 Miglia Experience was claimed by Ismaele and Marco Luigi Ghilardelli driving a Mercedes AMG GT C.
The event showcased not only the enduring appeal of vintage cars but also highlighted modern advancements in automotive technology through categories like the Ferrari Tribute and 1000 Miglia Green. The race continues to be a significant event for car enthusiasts worldwide.
