Valtteri Bottas Provides Insightful Feedback On Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale During Test Session
Valtteri Bottas, a Formula 1 driver and owner of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, recently engaged in a comprehensive testing session at the Balocco Proving Ground. He tested the "00 prototype" of this custom-built supercar alongside Alfa Romeo's engineering team. The event took place on the iconic track known for developing high-performance racing cars since 1962.
During the test, Bottas expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "The opportunity to test the 33 Stradale was a very special moment. I hope my feedback can be useful to the experienced Alfa Romeo development team for the final tuning. Configuring my personal car with the 'bottega Alfa Romeo' was engaging and exciting, and testing it today was really exciting. All I have to do is wait for my 33 Stradale to be ready!"
The session began with Bottas taking a reconnaissance lap in a Giulia GTAm to get familiar with the track's layout. This high-performance sedan features ultra-light materials and a powerful engine. Bottas owns one of these limited models, which helped him adapt quickly to the track conditions before driving the 33 Stradale.
Alfa Romeo engineers conducted specific tests focusing on balance, braking, and handling at various speeds. The aim was to achieve an exceptional driving experience in its class. Bottas appreciated how intuitive and responsive the car felt during moderate-speed tests, highlighting its precise steering and balanced handling.
The 33 Stradale boasts an eight-speed DCT gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and a powerful V-6 engine capable of over 620 horsepower. This setup allows it to reach speeds up to 207 mph and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under three seconds. The car's design focuses on maximum human-machine interaction.
Bottas tested both driving modes available: Strada (Road) for comfort and Pista (Track) for performance. In Pista mode, he explored its full potential with features like rapid gearshifts and always-open exhaust valves enhancing the driving thrill.
Precision Engineering and Braking System
The active suspension system played a crucial role in providing both comfort and performance during Bottas' test drive. The dual-arm suspension with active shock absorbers ensures precise steering control and excellent lateral acceleration across various conditions.
Bottas praised the braking system's adaptability across different modes. The Alfa Romeo Brake-By-Wire system ensures stability by controlling braking pressure effectively. Brembo-produced carbon-ceramic brakes offer high performance with reduced fading at high temperatures.
Final Impressions from Valtteri Bottas
In later stages of testing, Bottas pushed the car close to its limits by disengaging traction control on certain sections of the circuit. He confirmed that even non-professional drivers could enjoy supercar-level performance thanks to its ease of handling.
Bottas concluded his experience by highlighting how satisfying it was overall: "I am extremely satisfied with the testing. Today's experience is close to perfection, which for me means total symbiosis with the car." His feedback will contribute significantly towards finalising this remarkable vehicle's development process.
