URBAN-X By MINI Unveils Cohort 15 Of Startups Addressing Climate Challenges For Resilient Communities

URBAN-X, a technology startup platform by MINI, has unveiled its fifteenth cohort of startups. These startups are dedicated to tackling urgent climate issues. The four-month program seeks out startups that aim to build resilient communities and redefine strategies for achieving net-zero goals. Past participants have worked on solutions like e-bike battery swapping, landfill waste diversion, space-based solar power, and rideshare initiatives.

The program operates from URBAN-X's headquarters at Newlab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It offers pre-seed and seed-stage startups a unique chance to receive hands-on support from URBAN-X experts and access MINI's global community. Founders benefit from tailored mentorship addressing their specific needs, including customer development, go-to-market strategy, product development, engineering, funding, and communications.

Cohort 15 of URBAN-X Startups Announced

To date, 116 companies have completed the program. Many have successfully secured funding rounds, gained customer leads, and launched key products. Notable alumni include Dollaride, itselectric, and Lectrium. Mike Peyton, president of MINI Business Innovations LLC and vice president of MINI of the Americas stated: "I’m excited for the next cohort of innovate startups."

Peyton emphasized the importance of empowering founders and early-stage companies by tailoring the program to each startup’s needs to maximize impact. He expressed enthusiasm about the progress expected from this cohort's participants.

Chosen from over 100 applicants, six companies make up URBAN-X Cohort 15:

  • OneSix Energy: Innovating green hydrogen production using methane as both feedstock and energy source.
  • Arbon: Developing humidity-swing carbon capture technology that uses only water for reduced energy consumption during capture and regeneration.
  • vsNew: Offering an integrated hardware-software platform for accurate electric vehicle (EV) battery health reports for car dealers.
  • Expand Power Technologies: Creating a solid-state transformer module that significantly reduces transformer size and mass for a more efficient grid.
  • Encode Energy: Providing data-driven models to simplify EV fleet deal underwriting for lenders and stakeholders in fleet financing.
  • Wild Energy: Designing self-propelled electric trailer platforms to enhance EV towing range and gas vehicle fuel efficiency when towing.

Events During New York Climate Week

The launch coincides with New York City Climate Week where URBAN-X will participate in two headline events. On Tuesday, September 24th, they will co-host "Breakfast with URBAN-X" alongside BMW Group at Moonlight Studios from 10 am to 11:30 am EDT. Doors open at 9 am. This event highlights BMW Group’s URBAN-X initiative's work with climate tech startups and collaboration efforts with various stakeholders to address climate challenges.

The event will feature discussions with CEOs of five URBAN-X portfolio companies. On Friday, September 27th from 10 am to 12 pm EDT at Newlab in Brooklyn Navy Yard is the "URBAN-X Future Mobility Startup Challenge." Presented by BMW Group and URBAN-X in partnership with Newlab; it showcases early-stage mobility solutions reimagining urban mobility efficiency sustainably through startup pitches audience voting cash prizes awarded winning startups.

A Platform for Urban Innovation

The pitch competition is open to pre-Series A climate tech startups working in mobility or transportation sectors. Interested founders/startups can apply here while general public attendance requires registration via provided link.
