Upcoming Skoda SUV Will Give Nightmares To Brezza & Nexon – Likely To Sport Turbo Petrol Engine

The sub-4m SUV is fiercely competitive and the segment is currently dominated by the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Apart from that, this segment is packed with highly successful models such as Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

So, to introduce a new entrant into this tightly packed segment and make it successful is a tall order for any manufacturer. However, Skoda Auto India is all geared up to have a piece of the sub-4m SUV category in India with its own new SUV.

Skoda SUV

This upcoming sub-4m SUV from Skoda is expected to be announced on 27th February, and we expect some highlights that could rattle the segment and increase the expectations of eager customers and Skoda fanboys in India.

It is also to be noted that Skoda will be entering the sub-4m category after a very long time. In fact, the last sub-4m car Skoda launched in India was the Skoda Fabia hatchback, and it could only taste moderate success in the country.

Though Skoda will launch its sub-4m SUV in India, Volkswagen meanwhile will not be taking a similar path. Instead, the German automaker is poised to focus on electric vehicles, aiming at a more premium customer base.

Coming back to Skoda's upcoming SUV, the model is expected to be based on the same MQB-A0 IN platform that currently underpins models such as the Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Volkswagen Virtus.

Thanks to the use of this platform, we can not only expect the upcoming sub-4m SUV from Skoda to be roomy but to be very safe with a recipe for a 5-star safety rating as well.

However, the more potent 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine with 148bhp and 250Nm of torque will not be available in Skoda's sub-4m SUV to qualify for small car tax benefits. As such, we can expect the model to be powered by the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

This 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine already powers the likes of the above-listed Volkswagen and Skoda cars in India. Also, this powertrain is capable of dishing out 114bhp and 178Nm of torque, which in the sub-4m SUV category is plenty.

Thoughts About The Upcoming Skoda SUV

The upcoming SUV from Skoda is expected to rattle the sub-4m SUV category and is most likely to significantly boost the sales of the Czech automaker in India. Also, this Skoda SUV is expected to hit the Indian roads before mid-2025.
