UK Drivers Believe EV Ownership Is Inevitable According To New Research From CUPRA
Milton Keynes, 22-05-2024 – A recent white paper from CUPRA UK reveals that a significant majority of drivers believe electric vehicle (EV) ownership is inevitable. The survey, which formed the basis of the report, found that seven in 10 people expect to be driving a fully electric car within the next decade.
The study examined the perceptions of 377 drivers, both EV owners and non-owners, to identify differing viewpoints among UK drivers. One key finding is that 94% of CUPRA EV owners are satisfied with their decision to switch to an electric car. Notably, none of these owners expressed a desire to return to petrol or diesel vehicles.

Charging infrastructure remains a concern for some. However, only 5% of CUPRA EV owners reported that charging affects their daily routine, compared to 37% of non-EV owners. This highlights a significant difference in perception between those with hands-on experience and those without.
Marcus Gossen, Director of SEAT and CUPRA UK, commented on the findings: "Our white paper sheds new light on the factors affecting drivers’ perceptions of electrification. It is clear that those who make the switch are happy they did, but that does not mean our work is done."
Gossen emphasised the need for continued industry support and information dissemination to both current EV drivers and potential adopters. "We want to empower drivers and reassure them that sustainable mobility doesn't mean they have to compromise," he added.
Launched in 2018, CUPRA has rapidly grown into one of Europe’s fastest expanding car brands. In 2023, the brand delivered over 230,000 vehicles globally. Each new model launch has further defined CUPRA's unique character, combining electrification with performance.
The CUPRA Ateca was a standout model in its segment, followed by the CUPRA Leon, which introduced a plug-in hybrid electric engine. The CUPRA Formentor became the brand’s best-selling vehicle as the first model developed exclusively by CUPRA. The CUPRA Born marked another milestone as the brand’s first fully electric vehicle.
