Uber Green Enhances Kolkata's Transport With Electric Vehicles
Uber has introduced electric vehicles in Kolkata, marking the fourth Indian city to receive Uber Green services. This initiative follows the launch of EV-only fleets in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The move is part of Uber's commitment to promoting green and sustainable mobility.
Uber Green was first announced in India in June last year. The service initially rolled out in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru before expanding to other regions. Kolkata now joins these cities with its second EV-only cab fleet after Snap E.

Uber Green's Impact on Kolkata
The introduction of Uber Green aims to enhance air quality in Kolkata by reducing carbon emissions. Snehasis Chakraborty, Transport Minister of West Bengal, praised the initiative, stating, "Enhancing the air quality in Kolkata is a shared duty we all must embrace.
I commend Uber for introducing 'Uber Green' in Kolkata, a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in our city."
Uber Green users can book electric vehicle rides through the existing Uber app. The service will also be available at Kolkata international airport. Uber has not disclosed the number of electric vehicles deployed or detailed expansion plans for the city.
Vehicle Specifications and Booking Process
The Tata Tigor EV is part of Uber Green's fleet. This electric sedan features a permanent-magnet AC electric motor that generates up to 127 bhp. Its 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery offers a range of around 300 km on a single charge. Tata Motors has partnered with several cab aggregators to provide the Tigor EV as cabs.

Booking an Uber Green ride is straightforward and does not require downloading a new app. Users can access the service within the existing Uber app, similar to booking regular cabs. Since May last year, Uber Green has been available on the app, with a dedicated tab for easy access.
Global Goals and Future Plans
Uber aims to become a zero-emission mobility platform within six years in Europe and North America. Globally, the company targets 2040 to transition entirely to an EV-only service provider.
This launch underscores Uber's ongoing efforts to support sustainable commuting options across major Indian cities. By expanding its electric vehicle fleet, Uber continues to contribute to reducing urban pollution and promoting cleaner transportation alternatives.
