Renault Duster And Nissan Models To Feature Turbo-Petrol Engines: Hybrid In The Makes?

The highly awaited new-generation Renault Duster is set to make its debut in India next year, alongside its Nissan counterpart. In a recent announcement, the Renault-Nissan partnership showcased a teaser of two new SUVs, revealing plans to introduce their 7-seater models by the end of 2026. With the debut soon to come, new details have emerged about what potential buyers can expect from these upcoming models.

Initial reports indicate that the next-generation Duster and its Nissan sibling will be offered exclusively with turbo-petrol engines. Among the options, the HR10 1.0 litre turbo-petrol engine, currently seen in the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, is expected to feature in a more potent form for the lower-spec variants.

Additionally, the lineup will include the HR13 1.3 litre turbo-petrol engine, known for delivering 153 bhp and 254 Nm of torque, a familiar figure from the previous generation Duster and Nissan Kicks. These engines will be matched with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox.

While there's speculation about the usage of a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, confirmation is still pending. The K9K diesel engine will not be returning in the new models most likely.

The partnership is also exploring the possibility of a hybrid powertrain for the Indian market. A 4X4 variant, already available in international markets, might be introduced later in India, offering enhanced off-road capabilities.

The upcoming SUVs and their 7-seater versions will be built on the CMF-B platform, which will undergo significant localisation to achieve cost-effectiveness.

The Renault and Nissan models will share many components, although they will sport distinct design elements such as bumpers and grilles. This extends to the interior, where a similar set of features is expected across both models.

Given the high expectations for these vehicles, it's reported that senior management is closely overseeing the project's progress.

While the exact launch dates remain under wraps, the new Renault Duster is likely to hit the market by the end of 2025, with the Nissan version following closely behind. This launch sequence underscores Nissan and Renault's strategy to strengthen their SUV portfolio in India.
