Over 100 Traffic Violations Detected Hourly On Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway By AI
Traffic violations on the Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-275) are rising. Every hour, AI-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras detect over 100 violations. Data from May 2024 shows 74,915 traffic violations in just 28 days.
Traffic Violations: Key Statistics
The highest number of violations were for not wearing seat belts, totalling 57,057 cases. This was followed by 10,945 cases of overspeeding and 6,046 lane violations. Additionally, there were 494 cases of using mobile phones while driving, 80 for driving in the wrong direction, and 293 other violations.

Car drivers were the primary offenders, especially for not wearing seat belts, overspeeding, and lane violations. Heavy goods vehicles, including KSRTC and private buses, also contributed to these violations.
ANPR Camera Installations
The ANPR cameras are installed at key locations across Ramanagara and Mandya Districts. Notable locations in Ramanagara include Puthappanadoddi Gate, BilagumbaSamip, Kethaganahalli Railway Cross, Kempanahalli Gate, and Mudigere Gate.
Mandya District has also deployed ANPR and Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) cameras at several spots. CCTV cameras have been installed at toll gates, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set a speed limit of 100 kmph.
Enforcement Measures
Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety), Alok Kumar, highlighted the negligence towards road safety despite the presence of these cameras. "It shows negligence on the part of people towards road safety, and for their own and others' lives," he said.
When a violation is detected, notifications are sent to offenders' phones. Penalties are deducted from their FASTag accounts when their vehicles exit at tolls. The Mandya Police have also provided an online portal for paying fines.
