In the bustling automobile market in India, Toyota's newly launched Urban Cruiser Taisor has quickly made its mark. About a month since its debut, the vehicle, with a price tag ranging from Rs 7.74 lakh to Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom), has sparked interest among buyers.
The Taisor's 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol variant has emerged as a favourite, accounting for over 45 percent of the bookings. This figure significantly surpasses the demand for the same engine type in the Fronx, which stands at a mere 10 percent.
The Taisor's pricing strategy, particularly for its petrol version, might be a contributing factor. Toyota appears to absorb the cost of Maruti’s powertrain for the turbo versions, rather than passing it on to consumers, making it an attractive option.
When it comes to colour preferences, Cafe White leads the pack, followed by Gaming Grey, Sportin Red, and Lucent Orange. Dealers have noted that the top-spec Urban Cruiser Taisor V, available in both automatic and manual transmissions, has commanded the majority of bookings.
Interestingly, the manual gearbox option in the turbo variant is preferred by about 55 percent of buyers, though the 6-speed torque converter auto is also receiving a positive response. However, the CNG variant, available only in the entry-level E variant, has attracted a modest 15 percent of bookings.
This model positions itself as Toyota's most affordable SUV in a competitive segment, rivalling the likes of Maruti Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
