Upcoming Toyota Taisor SUV Teased – The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Based SUV Is Almost Here

Toyota India has just released a teaser of their upcoming subcompact crossover SUV set to be launched on the 3rd of April. The new compact SUV will be built through the ongoing Maruti-Toyota partnership, adding to their list of shared products.

Toyota’s teaser reveals the Urban Cruiser Taisor subcompact crossover SUV based on the Maruti Fronx. The Taisor is likely to get a redesigned grill and a few other small cosmetic changes like new bumpers, to make the compact SUV resemble Toyota’s design language better, and to help differentiate it from the Fronx.

In the teaser video, the headlights seen on the Toyota Taisor look like the LED DRLs seen on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The video also reveals a honeycomb pattern grille and a redesigned LED taillight setup. The Taisor in the video is a new orange exterior colour option.

Toyota has not revealed any of the details on the interior of the upcoming Urban Cruiser Taisor. The Taisor is expected to have a large infotainment display equipped with 360-degree surround view cameras, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Toyota is also expected to have automatic climate control and extra features like a heads-up display.

In terms of the powertrain, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor SUV is expected to offer the same engine options as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUV as well as the same transmission options.

The Fronx currently gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 89bhp and 113Nm of torque; and a 1.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine that produces 99bhp and 148Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both engine variants get Automatic transmission options.

Through the Maruti-Toyota partnership, both brands currently produce three cars each sharing the same platforms. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Toyota Glanza; the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder; and the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and the Toyota Innova Hycross are current models through the partnership.
