Toyota North America Reports Significant Rise In Electrified Vehicle Sales For September 2024

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) reported a significant shift towards electrified vehicles in September 2024. These vehicles, including hybrids and pure electrics, made up 48.4% of total sales, with 78,683 units sold. This marks a 22.4% increase compared to the previous year. TMNA's overall sales for the month were 162,595 vehicles, reflecting a decrease of 20.3% in volume compared to September 2023.

Year-to-date figures show that TMNA sold over 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S., marking a rise of 6.2%. Electrified vehicle sales reached 710,060 units, representing a substantial increase of 56%, accounting for more than 41% of total sales during this period. The company offers an extensive range of electrified options with 30 models available across Toyota and Lexus dealerships.

Toyota North America September Sales Results

The third quarter saw TMNA selling 542,872 vehicles in the U.S., which is an 8% decline in volume from last year. However, electrified vehicle sales during this quarter rose by an impressive 38.6%, totaling 255,863 units. This trend highlights the growing consumer preference for environmentally friendly vehicle options.

The Toyota division experienced a drop in September sales by 21.1%, with only 140,152 vehicles sold. Despite this decline, the division's year-to-date sales increased by 5.5%, reaching over 1.48 million units. Meanwhile, electrified vehicle sales within this division surged by nearly 58% year-to-date.

Lexus recorded its best-ever third-quarter performance with an increase of 8.1% in sales volume compared to last year, totaling nearly 81,000 vehicles sold. Year-to-date figures for Lexus also showed growth at over 248,000 units sold, marking a rise of more than 10%. The brand's electrified models saw a notable increase in demand as well.

Jack Hollis, executive vice president of Sales at TMNA, stated: "In September, nearly 50 percent of our total sales volume was an electrified model, an achievement made possible by our outstanding team and dealers." He emphasized that their diverse portfolio approach is key to achieving carbon neutrality while offering customers various powertrain choices.

Best-Selling Models and Future Plans

Several models achieved record-breaking sales figures in September and throughout the year-to-date period. Notable performers include the bZ4X and Camry HEV among others in Toyota’s lineup and RX HEV and RZ for Lexus. These successes underline the strong market acceptance of both brands' electrified offerings.

Toyota has been part of North America's automotive landscape for over six decades and remains committed to sustainable mobility solutions through its Toyota and Lexus brands. With plans to open its thirteenth manufacturing plant in North Carolina by 2025 focused on producing automotive batteries for electrified vehicles, Toyota aims to further strengthen its position as a leader in next-generation mobility solutions.
