Toyota & Maruti Suzuki's Partnership Fuels Record Sales In India
The Toyota Glanza, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Urban Cruiser Taisor, and Rumion collectively sold 51,314 units from April to July 2024. This success highlights the effectiveness of Toyota's strategy to introduce re-badged Maruti Suzuki models in India. These models now represent 52 percent of Toyota's total passenger vehicle sales, which reached 97,867 units during this period, marking a 35 percent year-on-year increase.
Significant Sales Growth
In the April-July 2024 period, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder emerged as the best-selling re-badged model with 18,852 units sold, reflecting a 58 percent year-on-year growth. The Glanza followed closely with 17,851 units sold, showing a modest 4 percent increase. The newly launched Urban Cruiser Taisor recorded impressive sales of 8,005 units since its launch on April 3, 2024. Meanwhile, the Rumion MPV contributed with sales of 6,606 units.

The partnership between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki has also seen Maruti borrowing the Toyota Innova Hycross for its Invicto MPV. Since its launch in July 2023 until the end of July 2024, the Invicto has sold an estimated 5,363 units. This collaboration underscores the mutual benefits both automakers are reaping from their badge-engineering agreement.
Year-On-Year Sales Comparison
Comparing year-on-year data reveals that re-badged Maruti models' contribution to Toyota's sales increased by 12 percent. In the same period in 2023, these models accounted for only 40 percent of Toyota's total passenger vehicle sales of 72,234 units.
| Model | April-July '24 | April-July '23 |

The Glanza has been a consistent performer since its launch in June 2019 and has accumulated sales of 178,886 units by the end of July 2024. The Hyryder is also nearing a significant milestone with almost 100,000 units sold since its introduction in September 2022.
Toyota's Record-Breaking Prospects for FY2025
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is on track for record-breaking sales in FY2025. By the end of July this fiscal year alone, they have already achieved 40 percent of their total sales for FY2024. With eight months remaining and the festive season approaching, there is strong potential for Toyota to surpass the milestone of selling over 300,000 units for the first time.
The Japanese automaker recorded impressive figures in FY2024 with total sales reaching 245,676 units—a remarkable increase of 42 percent from the previous fiscal year. Re-badged models like Glanza and Hyryder played a crucial role in this achievement by contributing significantly to overall sales.
This upward trend suggests that Toyota will continue to benefit from its strategic partnership with Maruti Suzuki while maintaining robust demand across its product range.
The collaboration between these two automotive giants not only boosts their individual market shares but also offers Indian consumers more choices within different segments. This synergy is expected to drive further growth and solidify their positions in India's competitive automobile market.
