Toyota’s First EV To Be Launched In India- All About Toyota Urban SUV Concept

Toyota is getting ready to launch its first EV SUV, expected to hit the market by September or October of 2025. Taking inspiration from the Urban SUV concept seen last year, the Maruti eVX will share the same Platform, which is currently set to be launched in March 2025.

Currently, Toyota and Maruti share platforms and R&D with three models for each company, namely the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser, the Invicto and the Hycross and lastly, the Baleno and the Glanza. The Toyota Urban SUV and the Maruti eVX will be the fourth addition to their shared lineups.

The Toyota Urban SUV and the Maruti eVX share the same dimensions, being 4300mm in length, 1820mm in width, 1620 mm in height, and having a wheelbase of 2700mm. Apart from the dimensions, both share the same platform and design cues.

When it comes to design,the Urban SUV concept resembles Toyota’s recent electric cars, with its angular lines, C-shaped LED daytime Running lights, and a robust SUV profile. Its rear design resembles its sibling, the eVX.

While Toyota hasn’t unveiled the interior of the Urban SUV concept, similarities with the eVX are expected. Expected to have generous space, a user-friendly layout, and a host of modern features among other amenities.

The 27PL skateboard platform, built in the Suzuki Facility located in Gujarat, on which both the Toyota Urban SUV and the Maruti eVX are assembled. With two battery options available, a 60kWh variant with approximately 550km range and a smaller 48kWh option providing around 400km of range.

The Toyota has stated that the Urban SUV will be available in both, front-wheel-drive as well as dual motor all-wheel drive options to cater to the diverse market preferences. Toyota's electric SUV is set to take on the competition of rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and its sibling, the Maruti eVX.
