Toyota Achieves Ninth Formula DRIFT Auto Cup Title At Irwindale Speedway In 2024
Toyota secured its ninth Formula DRIFT Auto Cup title following the season's conclusion at Irwindale Speedway in California. Paul Doleshal, group manager of motorsports at Toyota Motor North America, expressed satisfaction with reclaiming the top podium spot. "We are pleased to take back the top spot on the podium as we claim our ninth Auto Cup title," he stated. He credited the achievement to the hard work of their teams and drivers who pushed Toyota vehicles to their limits.
Fredric Aasbo, a multiple-time champion, spearheaded Toyota's efforts this season. He achieved a victory in Atlanta and secured a podium finish in St. Louis. His teammate, Ryan Tuerck, also contributed significantly by winning in Seattle, marking his first victory since 2022. Other Toyota drivers like Ken Gushi and Jhonnattan Castro had notable performances too. Gushi began the year with a strong fourth-place finish at Long Beach, while Castro reached the Great 8 in Seattle.

Toyota's journey in Formula DRIFT began with Scion branding, capturing its first three Auto Cup titles consecutively from 2014 to 2016. The brand continued its success with three more championships between 2017 and 2019. Recent victories include titles in both 2021 and 2022. This consistent performance highlights Toyota's dominance in the sport over the years.
The Toyota GR Supra, GR Corolla Hatchback, and GR86 are key models competing in Formula DRIFT events. These vehicles have been instrumental in securing wins and maintaining Toyota's competitive edge throughout the season.
For over 65 years, Toyota has been integral to North America's cultural landscape. The company is dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands across more than 1,800 dealerships. With over 63,000 employees in North America, Toyota has produced nearly 47 million cars and trucks at its 12 manufacturing plants.
By 2025, Toyota plans to open its 13th plant in North Carolina for automotive battery production for electrified vehicles. Currently offering 30 electrified options, Toyota leads with more electrified vehicles on roads than any other automaker.
Looking ahead, Doleshal expressed optimism about future successes: "We are thrilled to have achieved this honor for the 2024 Formula DRIFT season and look forward to much more drifting success in the years to come." This statement underscores Toyota's commitment to maintaining its leadership position in motorsports.
