That being said, the latest official ARAI figures reveal the top 10 most fuel-efficient petrol cars in India, spanning from budget-friendly models to more advanced hybrid vehicles in the country.

Top 10 Fuel-Efficient Petrol Cars
At the tenth position, we have the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Taisor, both powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and delivering a combined fuel efficiency of 22.34km/l.
Closely following the above-listed models are the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza, with a slightly higher efficiency of 22.64km/l, thanks to their identical 1.2-litre petrol engines.

Moving up the list, the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto claim the eighth spot by offering an impressive 23.24km/l, showcasing the advances in fuel efficiency for vehicles in their class.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire takes the seventh position as the most fuel-efficient compact sedan with a fuel efficiency of 23.69km/l. That being said, we expect the next-gen Dzire to be even more efficient.

For those looking for an even more economical option, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 stands at the sixth place with 24.65km/l, making it the most affordable entry on the list.
Not far ahead, the Maruti Wagon R 1.0 offers 24.77km/l, praised for its practicality and roomy interior. We are also expecting the next-gen Wagon R to boast better hybrid tech and even more fuel efficiency figures.

Entering the top four, the new 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback boasts a fuel efficiency of 25.30km/l, a testament to the efficiency of its all-new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine (Z-Series).
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio, positioned third, leads the pure-petrol segment with a remarkable 25.96km/l. Thanks to its astonishing fuel efficiency figures, the model continues to be a popular choice for many Indians.

The second spot is held by the Honda City e:HEV, a strong hybrid model that impresses with a fuel efficiency of 27.13km/l. The model also comes with really comfortable seats, making it an ideal choice for chauffeured customers.
Topping the chart are the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, with an unparalleled fuel efficiency figure of 27.93km/l. These models also have the ability to run in EV mode for short distances, making them ideal for short urban commutes.
