Tommy Lemaire Claims Victory In 2024 Formula Drift PROSPEC Championship
Tommy Lemaire has secured the 2024 FD Link ECU PROSPEC Championship title. Dmitriy Brutskiy emerged victorious in Round 4, held on August 30, 2024, at Utah Motorsports Campus in Grantsville, UT.
Dmitriy Brutskiy clinched first place driving the Never Settle BMW. Margaritis Katsanidis from Greece took second with his LS Doctor E46 BMW. Austin Matta from the USA finished third in his Austin Matta Motorsports Nissan S14.
In a dramatic turn of events, Lemaire withdrew from the starting line to address an engine issue during his Top 32 heat against DJ Stubstad. After replacing a damaged plug wire, he returned to win the heat and ultimately finished fifth in the final round. This victory secured him the championship title by a margin of 26 points over Connor O’Sullivan.
The final standings for the 2024 FD PROSPEC Championship saw Tommy Lemaire from Canada leading with his XPN Carbon-Kevlar Nissan S14.9. Connor O’Sullivan from the USA followed in second place with his O'Sully Racing / RTS E46 BMW. Austin Matta rounded out the top three with his Nissan S14.
Lemaire, O’Sullivan, and Matta have all earned automatic Formula DRIFT PRO licenses for next year if they choose to advance. Brutskiy's win in Round 4 propelled him from 23rd to sixth place in the overall standings.
Notable Performances
Margaritis Katsanidis achieved his first-ever Formula DRIFT podium finish by securing second place in Round 4. He lost to Brutskiy after a rear tire de-beaded in Outside Zone 1. Austin Matta finished third both in Round 4 and in the overall championship, tying with Cody Buchanan but securing third due to a podium finish earlier in St Louis.
Nik Jimenez, driving the Jimenez Racing Nissan Z, was the top rookie driver, finishing 12th in Round 4 and reaching the Top 16 before being defeated by Lemaire. His performance earned him the Rookie Driver of the Year award for 2024.
