THK To Showcase LSR-05 Electric Car Prototype At Paris Auto Salon 2024
THK, a Japanese technology firm, is set to unveil its electric car prototype, the LSR-05, at an international auto show. This marks the first time THK will showcase a prototype outside Japan. The LSR-05 was initially introduced at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo and highlights several advanced technologies from THK.
The LSR-05 is a collaboration with SN DESIGN PLATFORM, led by Shiro Nakamura. It embodies luxury, sportiness, and innovation as a four-seater crossover coupe. The vehicle measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height. Its design aims to combine elegance with dynamic performance.
THK's LSR-05 integrates cutting-edge features like the Stealth Seat-slide system and in-wheel motors with four-wheel steering. It also includes active suspension and a contactless charging system. These technologies are designed to enhance ride comfort and handling stability.
The vehicle's platform incorporates two rear 93 kW (800 V) variable-flux in-wheel motors and a front 220 kW (800 V) motor. This setup supports the four-wheel steering system. The combination of these elements ensures exceptional driving dynamics.
Shiro Nakamura of SN DESIGN PLATFORM stated: "LSR-05 represents Japanese innovation and precision." The interior features smart packaging for a spacious feel using THK's Stealth Seat slide system. This unique seating arrangement contributes to a luxurious cabin experience.
At the Paris Auto Salon, Takashi Teramachi will present THK's technologies featured on the LSR-05. These include MR fluid active dampers and electric brakes that further enhance the vehicle's performance capabilities.
Future Mobility Vision
The contactless charging system exemplifies THK's vision for future mobility solutions. This system uses dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT), embedding a power transmitter in the ground and a receiver in the vehicle for efficient energy transfer.
Takahashi Teramachi mentioned: "We are not stopping with LSR-05 as a dynamic showcase for our technologies." He added that work on the next-generation prototype, LSR-07, is already underway and will be featured at next year's Japan Mobility Show.
Key Technological Innovations
The Stealth Seat-Slide System allows for significant seat movement within compact spaces using linear guides attached to seats. The Variable Magnetic Flux In-Wheel Motor enhances reliability by independently driving left and right wheels with high-torque rotations.
The Active Level Control Suspension adjusts vehicle height based on road conditions using THK ball screws/splines. It lowers vehicle height at high speeds to reduce air resistance while improving power efficiency during contactless charging.
MR Fluid Active Damper Tube technology combines seismic isolation with magnetorheological fluid for electronically controlled damping performance. This feature works alongside ALCS for optimal suspension control.
The Electric Service Brake independently controls four brakes through electric control, reducing weight and size by incorporating highly rigid THK ball screws inside actuators.
Founded in Tokyo in 1971, THK initially gained fame for its linear motion technology before expanding into machine tools and automotive supply globally through 37 factories. The company has a strong presence in Europe with manufacturing facilities like one in Ensisheim, France.
