This Indian State Just Waived Road Tax For Electric Vehicles – All Details Here

The Telangana government recently announced a complete waiver of Road Tax for electric vehicles. This latest decision from the Telangana government is expected to accelerate EV adoption in the state. In addition to the waiver of Road Tax for electric vehicles, the state has also waived off registration fees for EV purchases. These waivers make Telangana one of the cheapest states to buy an EV in India.

This exemption is applicable to all types of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, taxis, autorickshaws, light goods carriers, tractors, and buses. This decision to waive road tax for EVs was announced by the state's Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

Electric Vehicles

The exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles registered in the state of Telangana will last until December 31, 2026. This policy is part of the government's broader strategy to make Hyderabad pollution-free by increasing electric vehicle adoption.

According to the Transport Minister, 5 out of every 100 vehicles in the state are electric. He also emphasised the need for manufacturers to establish charging stations to avoid inconvenience for EV users. It is also worth mentioning that, Transport Minister Prabhakar along with Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj and Transport Commissioner Surendra Mohan, visited four different states to develop an effective EV policy.

The policies implemented by these states were carefully studied, improved and a few changes were made to suit the requirements of Telangana. This new policy aims to prevent the state and the capital from facing severe pollution issues similar to what residents of Delhi are facing today.

Although Telangana had introduced an EV policy for 2020-2030, it wasn't fully implemented. The current administration is determined to enforce the new policy rigorously. By spreading awareness about EV benefits, they hope to significantly reduce pollution levels across the state.

The government is also encouraging electric vehicle manufacturers to take proactive steps in setting up charging infrastructure. This initiative is crucial in ensuring that EV users have easy access to charging facilities without any hassle.

Telangana's commitment reflects its dedication to fostering an eco-friendly environment through sustainable transportation solutions. With these measures in place, Telangana aims to lead by example in promoting electric mobility across India.
